We are a Small Market Track, and it ain’t fair!

Well I guess I know how it feels to be the MN Twins trying to compete with the bigger markets.  Consider these “off season” storylines:

World of Outlaws Date

I had been in constant contact with the World of Outlaws way last summer to try and get one of their races back at the Jackson Speedway.  I really thought this would get the Jackson Speedway back on track and we would be off and running.  After all, we had run 3 very successful World of Outlaw Shows, so I thought we should be a shoe in, Right??

I really wanted July 3rd and I gave the Outlaws a bunch of solid reasons why I thought we should get this date if it came available. Well it came available, but guess what?

They gave the date to Husets, even though they already had two dates.

I thought Jackson was deserving of a date and had a good shot at it.  We had the financial backing, we had some sponsors on board, we have a good facility, some of the teams indicated they wanted to come here, yet in the end, we still did not get the date.

Or any date.

At first I was mad, just ain’t fair, I thought. Complete BS. What could they be thinking? How could they be so stupid?

ASCS Schedules a Saturday Night National Race at Spencer

Again, at first I was mad, just ain’t fair, I thought. Complete BS.  What could they be thinking?  How could they be so stupid?

The reality of the situation was there really was not a lot we could do about it.  For one I did not think the date would be profitable at Jackson, so what could I really say to them?  Don’t run there, but I don’t want the date either.  Just don’t run at all and leave us alone? Ya right.

So what is my point?

Our parents were right when they told us life is not fair.  And it is especially not fair when the playing field is not even.  But that is life folks, and we all learned this when we were like three years old.

Right now the Jackson Speedway gets pushed around, and it ain’t fair.  But that is the way it is, its business, and it is never fair.  Everyone wants to do what is best for them and they could care less about the Jackson Speedway.

The silver lining here is these two events ticked me off, and more importantly THEY WOKE ME UP!!!

The MN twins have a small market yet they can compete and sometimes beat the big markets, so how do they do it?  They can’t throw a bunch of money around to attract better players, so they develop their own.

Jackson Speedway can not rely on the World of Outlaws, the ASCS, Knoxville or Husets to do anything in our best interests, because they have their own best interests that come 1st!

The only way we can assure success is on our local level.  And we are blessed to have some of the most loyal Sprint Car teams of any track in the country.

I thought “Rally the troops you dummy, you got like 35 Sprint Car teams and every one of them want to make the Jackson Speedway succeed.”  It was right there in front of my face, but until now, I was too stupid to realize it!

Who cares what any of these other groups or tracks does.  Oh we would probably still take an Outlaw date, and we would probably still work with the ASCS if it worked for both of us.  But more importantly, we have got the foundation to be more than successful in our small market, and it all starts with developing our own teams. Just like the MN Twins do it!

It ain’t fair and we don’t care!  Look out folks, here comes the Jackson Speedway!!!

PS - Look at what a bunch of our teams are already doing with the Spring Nationals. We have race teams raising money for a show.  Have you ever heard of such a thing?  Do you see ANY RACE TEAM at any other of the before mentioned Series or tracks raising money for a race?
