Jon's ramblings on 8/24/09 - The end is near! The season is quickly coming to a close, The Nationals are in the books, and just two shows to go!
I would like thank all of my employees who really put in some long hours for the Nationals. I also would like to thank all the drivers and crews that raced this year. It was great to see the car count way up! Although this certainly made the night a challenge, both track wise and logistics, but we made the best of it.
We have been able to grow the event back to its pre 2006 Status. THIS IS GREAT! But we also need to revisit several changes we were looking at in 2005. Those would be, what types of rules would make the program move faster? Such as a one Unassisted Caution and your done rule. The other thing (Assuming I am back) is race receivers will be mandatory. do we split up the Nationals?
As I posted on the Stock Car Forum on who won (many of which were upset with the shortening of the Stock Car race from 25 to 21 laps), In my opinion the problem is with that race was guys bringing out the intentional cautions. I don't blame the guys bringing them out, because it is to their advantage the way we have the rule. In my opinion this ruined the race. But it will be changed for next year.
We will see in the next racing committee meeting what they thought of the green white checkered get one chance as well. They voted this in unanimously. It seemed to me that many fans cheered when we went green white checkered, but many booed when we checkered the finish because of yet another caution.
Its was a classic catch 22, do we follow our rules and procedures, or do you throw those out because it is a special and looks like it is going to be a great finish?????
We have grown to where we need to make some changes based on where we are today, in terms of car count. We talked with in the racing committee that racer friendly rules were necessary in 07 when were getting 40-50 cars per night.
Anyway enough rambling on that......Let keep things in perspective.
The track was almost not going to open in 2007 and 2 & 1/2 years later, we are talking about a special that has too many cars at it....it needs to be split up, you need to come up with a better system because of all the cars...We really have some problems here at Jackson Don't we! How many tracks are down on car counts and people count? Or just closed early or dropped their premier division. How many right in our area?
And how are we doing this year? All thing considered we are doing great. Do we have many things to work on? Oh yes, but keep in mind how hard we have all been working to make OUR JACKSON Speedway bigger and better. And look at what we have done in 2 1/2 years.
Until next time.
