11/3/2009 - We have been very busy at the Jackson Speedway Corporate Headquarters (I like the Sound of that! Even if the headquarters are in my basement). Here is some highlights of what has been going on and what I have been thinking: New Contract: I have agreed to a 3 year contract extension with Jackson County, so I will be promoting the Jackson Speedway for at least 2010, 2011 and 2012. We are very fortunate to have a great group of people to work with at Jackson County!
2010 Classes: We have decided what classes we will be running and what sanctioning we will have - at least for the most part. Same classes, but the B Mods and Hobby Stocks will now be sanctioned with IMCA. The decision came down to what I thought was best for the future of the class. We try to maximize car counts, and with the rules we had last season we had some pretty respectable car counts. But, we get the most cars from Fairmont in these divisions, and they have sanctioned these two divisions. The USRA tracks to our West have not had as good of car counts (as us and Fairmont) and we do not get quite as many of the USRA cars to run with us. I am currently of the opinion that IMCA is a better way to go and will get us the most cars. Hopefully we see some of the tracks to our West go in the same direction.
A Mods - We did look hard at whether or not I thought we could make this work. To do it we would have had to drop the 305 Sprints and probably up the front gate a $1 or $2. But what made up my mind was again the IMCA vs USRA split, and no where is it bigger than in the A Mods. For Jackson Speedway to get enough A Mods to make this class work, we would need both Fairmont and Worthington to have the same rules, so we could get cars from both track. The way it is now, in my opinion the two sanctioning bodies are too far apart to run them together. So no A Mods for 2010. Maybe a special....
So that get us back to the 305 Sprints, which we will be keeping for 2010. They will likely be placed on a car count - for example if they have under 10 cars they may be racing for 2nd place money. We will wait until we find class sponsors and things like that to announce exactly how this will work. Any races that are specials or have added purse money will have a guaranteed purse. Rules for the 305 Sprints - well it looks like the Midwest 305's may change there Rod Rule to allow 6" Rods, we may couple with this, but will likely not allow the Dry Sump. We will try and keep the our rules close to the Midwest Group.
Banquet: Wow, what can we say! Great turn out. Sorry it was a little tight down at the Legion. I guess we need to be up at the Armory for future Banquets and for the Season Kick off Party in March.
Race Receivers: These will be required in all classes. The reasons for requiring this, are:
1) To help speed up the show. 2) Prevent Wrecks - because now we can announce a caution to all the drivers at once 3) For the safety of our Corner Workers - we will not need them to be as close to the track with the Yellow Flags, etc.
2010 Schedule Released You can see the schedule under the schedule section. The main thing that we are looking at it to have more multi day shows by having some more Friday Night all Sprint Car Shows.
2010 Season Kick Off Party This will be a racing committee fund raiser and will be either March 20 or March 27th. This is going to be similar to the chili feed that we did a few years back, and the money raised will go for point funds or whatever the racing committee sees fit.
