Van Wyhe, Eakin, Smith and Ecker take Jackson Wins
By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (May 26, 2007) - Finally a Saturday night with no rain in the area, as bright sunny skies greeted race fans for Riverside Sinclair/Houseman Oil of Estherville IA, race night.  Picking up the nights feature race wins were Shawn Van Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA, Q102 360 Outlaw Sprints; Nate Eakin, Milford IA, Pizza Ranch of Jackson Limited Sprints; Dustin Smith, Lake City IA, Performance Center of Estherville IMCA Stock Cars; and Adam Ecker, Comfrey MN, IMCA Hobby Stocks.

The 20-lap Q102 360 Outlaw Sprint feature was led start to finish by Shawn Van Wyhe.  At the start Van Wyhe got the lead from his outside pole starting position.  Pole sitter Frank Phipps, Everly IA, got the second spot with Nick Lusk, Jackson MN, the third spot.  The leaders would race in this order until the fifth lap when Phipps got high in turn four, found the wall, and rolled several times.  Phipps would get out of the car and walk back to the pits, but was later taken the hospital for a check-up.  On the restart Van Wyhe kept the field behind as Lusk now raced in second followed Joe Riedel, Harrisburg SD.  Again the leaders raced in this order until the tenth lap when Scott Winters, Butterfield MN, clipped an inside retaining tire and came to stop on the back stretch.  On the restart Van Wyhe would pull away from the field as Lusk continued in second followed by Riedel.  On the twelfth lap Riedel would fall back in the field as both Bill Boles, Harris IA, and Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, got by him, putting him back to fifth.  As the race went on Van Wyhe would maintain the lead followed by Lusk, Boles, and Vogelaar.  On lap sixteen the races last caution came out when Bryan Dobesh, Sioux Falls SD, spun off the track in turn two with a broken torsion bar.  That set up the final restart and Van Wyhe held off the field while Boles was able to get by Lusk for the second spot.  When the checkered flag flew it was Shawn Van Wyhe picking up the win followed by Bill Boles, Gordy Vogelaar would get by Lusk for third, Nick Lusk had to settle for fourth, while Joe Riedel was fifth.  Heat races were won by Scott Winters, and Bryan Dobesh.

One red flag stopped the action in the 15-lap Pizza Ranch of Jackson Limited Sprint Car feature race.  At the start Nate Eakin, would get the lead from his outside row one starting spot.  Doug Bratrud, Jackson MN, grabbed second with Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, third.  The leaders raced in this order for several laps when the red flag came out on lap ten for Todd Pankow, Trimont MN, who got into the wall in turn four.  Pankow was ok but done for the race.  On the restart Eakin, kept the field behind him, led the remaining five laps and went on to take his first ever feature event win.  He was followed by Doug Bratrud, Bruce Anderson, Steve Yarns, Jackson MN, and Mike Blomstrom, Lakeville MN.  Heat races were won by Curt Thurmer, Jackson MN, and Bruce Anderson.

The 15-lap Performance Center IMCA Stock car feature race went green white checkered.  At the start Jeffrey Larson, Rushmore MN, got the lead from his pole starting position followed by Gary Bannister, Lakefield MN, and Jim Larson, Rushmore MN.  The leaders raced in these potions through the first nine laps when Jim Larson got by Bannister for the second position.  On lap eleven Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, got by Bannister for the fourth spot.  The next lap saw Dustin Smith move into the fourth spot putting Bannister back to fifth.  With Jeffrey Larson up front followed by Jim Larson, Senne and Smith, the leaders raced in these positions through the white flag lap when Dustin Smith made a great move and went from fourth in turn three to winning by inches at the line to pick up the win.  Jeffrey Larson had to settle for second followed by Jim Larson, Jeff Senne and Gary Bannister.  Heat races were won by Jim Larson and Jeff Senne.

Two different drivers led in the 12-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature race.  At the start of the race it was Dan Thate, Fairmont MN, getting the early lead from his outside row one starting spot.  Jason Andrews, Okabena MN, got the second spot with Adam Ecker the third spot.  Lap two saw Ecker move into the second spot as John Briggs, Calumet IA, moved into third.  On lap three Ecker would challenge Thate for the lead but Thate would hold him off.  As the field worked on lap four Ecker made his move coming out of turn four and took the lead.  The leaders would race with Ecker up front followed by Thate and Briggs.  On lap seven Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, and Briggs raced hard for the third spot and on the next lap Strandberg would get by Briggs for the position.  When the checkered flag flew it was Adam Ecker picking up the win followed by Dan Thate, Dan Strandberg, John Briggs, and Kelly Klingenberg, Brewster MN. Heat race winners were Adam Ecker and Dan Thate.
