By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (June 30, 2007) - Sunny skies and warm temperatures greeted race fans and teams for an awesome night of racing action sponsored by the State Bank of Fairmont MN and Dave’s Lawn Care and Landscaping of Jackson MN.  The nights feature race wins went to Bill Boles, Harris IA, Q102 Sprints; Mark Hodgins, Spencer IA, Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints; Jeffrey Larson, Rushmore MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; and Doug Wark, Jordan MN, IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Four different drivers led in the 20-lap Q102 Sprint Car feature race.  At the start it was Jesse Drost, Rushmore MN, getting the early lead from his pole starting position.  Shawn Van Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA, would get the second spot with Casey Heser, Jackson MN, getting the third spot.  At the end of lap one the caution came out when Wade Nygaard, Fargo ND, stopped on the high side of turn two.  Nygaard was able to restart, and on the restart Van Wyhe was able to get by Drost for the lead.  On lap four Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, would get by Drost for the second spot as Drost would fall back to third.  Following the fourth lap the caution came out when Nick Lusk, Jackson MN, spun in turn two.  On the restart Van Wyhe kept the field behind him as Vogelaar ran second and Bill Boles raced in the third spot.  The leaders would race in this order for several laps, as Boles attempted to reel in Vogelaar for second but could not get by him.  On lap twelve the caution came out again for Lusk who stopped on the front stretch.  On the restart Van Wyhe would have problems and come to a stop on the back straightaway.  That handed the lead over to Gordy Vogelaar.  Vogelaar now raced up front for the next several laps followed by Boles and Gregg Bakker, Sioux Falls SD, in the third spot.  On lap sixteen Boles would make his move into the lead and get by Vogelaar.  With Boles up front Vogelaar ran second and Bakker third but closing in for the second spot. While working lap nineteen Bakker was able to get by Vogelaar for the second position and would run out of laps to advance further as Bill Boles took the win.  Gregg Bakker was second followed by Gordy Vogelaar, Scott Winters, Butterfield MN, and Wade Nygaard.  Heat race winners were Wade Nygaard, Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA, and Shawn Van Wyhe.  Splitting the State Bank of Fairmont Hard Charger award were Chris Graf, Glencoe MN, and Jake Leighty, Worthington MN, each driver advanced ten positions.

The 15-lap Pizza Ranch Limited Sprint Car feature race went green-white-checkered.  At the start of the race it was Jeff Edgington, Sioux Falls SD, getting the early lead from his pole starting spot, with Mark Hodgins getting the second spot and Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, the third spot.  The leaders raced in this order for three laps when Doug Bratrud, Jackson MN, was able to get by Friedrichsen for third. Friedrichsen would fall back to the fifth spot as Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, would also get by him.  With Edgington up front and pulling away Hodgins raced in the second spot and Bratrud third.  The leaders raced in this order through the white flag lap when Edgington had motor problems, which let the field go by him and allowed Mark Hodgins to pick up the win.  Doug Bratrud was second followed by Bruce Anderson, Casey Friedrichsen, and Scott Knudson, Elkton SD.  Heat races went to Curt Thurmer, Jackson MN, and Steve Yarns, Jackson MN.

Two different drivers led in the 15-lap Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars feature race.  At the start it was Jeffrey Larson getting the early lead from his outside row one starting spot.  Jake Masters, Graettinger IA, would get the second position with Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, the third spot. The leaders raced in this order for the first three laps when Masters got by Larson for the lead.  On lap five the caution came out when Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, stopped in turn three with a flat right front.  On the restart Masters kept the field behind as Larson ran second and Schroeder third.  On lap nine Larson would get the number one spot back from Masters as he got high in turns one and two.  On lap ten the caution came out again as Masters and Schroeder made contact, in which Masters spun in turn two coming to a stop.  On the restart Larson kept the field behind him although Schroeder peeked his nose in a time or two looking for the lead.  Lap thirteen saw the final caution for debris in turns three and four.  Larson would keep the field behind him, lead the final two laps and go on to take the win.  Trent Schroeder was second followed by Jeff Senne, Matt Schwandt, Janesville MN, and Jim Larson, Rushmore MN.  Heat race wins went to Jeffrey Larson and Trent Schroeder.

Two different drivers led in the 12-lap green-white-checkered IMCA Hobby Stock feature race.  At the start it was Darryl Bortvit, Estherville IA, getting the early lead from his outside row one starting spot but, Doug Wark was right beside him batting for the lead.  On the second lap Wark was able to move by Bortvit and get the number one spot, Bortvit fell back in the field. Wark would race up front as Dan Thate, Fairmont MN, ran second followed by Gaylen Freese, Galva IA.  On lap four Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, got Freese for third and on lap five Strandberg challenged Thate for second.  On lap six Strandberg would get by Thate for second and set his sights on Wark.  Lap eight saw Freese move back into the third spot as Thate would drop out of the race.  The leaders now raced with Wark up front followed by Strandberg and Freese.  As the white flag was displayed Strandberg was only a couple of car lengths behind Wark but couldn’t catch him and Doug Wark went on to take the win.  Dan Strandberg was second followed by Gaylen Freese, Drew Barglof, Sioux Rapids IA, and Bill Woodcock, Spencer IA.  Heat race wins went to Dan Strandberg and Chad Carlson.

This Saturday night will be Relay for Life night at the race sponsored by Lite Form Midwest and KICD Radio of Spencer IA.  All four classes will be in action including the Q102 Sprints, Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars, and IMCA Hobby Stocks.  Hot laps will be at 7:00 p.m. with racing to follow.
