Jackson Minnesota (June 9, 2007) -
It was a near perfect night for racing this past Saturday night for
the 30th Annual University of Okoboji, presented by the
Pizza Ranch of Jackson and Beck Engineering and Excavating of Spirit
Lake. The nights feature race wins went to Chad Meyer, Sioux Falls
SD, Q102 Outlaw Sprints; Scott Knudson, Elkton SD, Pizza Ranch
Limited Sprints; Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, Performance Center
IMCA Stock Cars, and Cody Lucas, Cherokee IA, IMCA Hobby Stocks.
The 20-lap Q102
Outlaw Sprint Car feature race was led start to finish by Chad
Meyer. On the start it was Meyer getting the early lead from his
outside row one starting position. Casey Heser, Jackson MN, grabbed
the second spot with Nick Lusk, Jackson MN, getting the third spot.
On lap three Jody Rosenboom, Rock Rapids IA, moved into the third
position getting by Lusk. On lap five the caution came out when
Brandon Geldner, St. Peter MN, got into one of the inside retaining
tires. On the restart Meyer would keep the field behind as Heser
and Rosenboom maintained their positions. Further back in the field
Scott Winters, Butterfield MN, worked his way up to the fourth
position on lap twelve. On lap fifteen the caution came out for
Winters when he got a flat tire. Winters was not able to get his
tire changed in time for the green and was not going to be able to
restart the race. When the green flag was thrown a few fans in the
stands disagreed with Winters mishap and threw beverage cans onto
the speedway, resulting in another caution. As a result, Winters
was able to get to his tire changed and restart the race. On the
restart Meyer kept the field behind him and went on to take the
win. This was Chad Meyer’s first win at the Jackson Speedway since
an IRA show in 2002. Casey Heser took the second spot followed by
Wade Nygaard, Fargo ND, Curt Lund, Redwood Falls MN, and Bill Boles,
Harris IA. Heat race winners were Mark Toews, Casey Heser, and Jody
Rosenboom.
The 15-lap Pizza
Ranch Limited Sprint feature race went green-white-checkered. At
the start it was Scott Knudson, getting the early lead from his
outside pole starting position. Jake Nicosen, Ringsted IA, got the
second spot with Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, getting the third
position. As the race went on Knudson would start to pull away from
the field. On the fifth lap Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, would move
into the third spot getting by Friedrichsen. As the race continued
Knudson would maintain the number one spot as Nicosen ran second and
Anderson third. As the race began to wind down, and Knudson took
the white flag, he would slow just a bit as his radiator cap came
off. Knudson however would stay up front and go onto claim his
first ever win in a sprint car, and his first win in six years.
Knudson’s last win came in a Stock Car. Jake Nicosen took second
followed by Bruce Anderson, Mike Blomstrom, Lakeville MN, and Curt
Thurmer, Jackson MN. Heat race winners were Bruce Anderson and Doug
Bratrud, Jackson MN.
Two different
drivers led in the 15-lap Performance Center IMCA Stock Car feature
race. When the green flag dropped it was Trent Schroeder, getting
the early lead from his outside row one starting position. Jesse
Baer, Minnesota Lake MN, got the second spot with Luke Saathoff,
Belle Plaine MN, getting the third position. On lap two Baer and
Saathoff would swap places. While on lap three Baer would fall back
in the field as Saathoff raced in second and Jim Larson, Rushmore
MN, moved into third. Lap four the leaders would rearrange again as
Stefan Sybesma got by Jim Larson for third. The leaders would now
race with Schroeder up front followed by Saathoff, Sybesma and now
Jeffrey Larson, Rushmore MN. The field raced in this order for the
next several laps until lap eleven when Jeffrey Larson moved into
third and on lap thirteen he would move into the second spot. When
field took the white flag it was Jeffrey Larson getting a nose by
Schroeder to at the line. Schroeder however would get the lead back
in turns one and two. They would race hard for the lead on the last
lap and as they raced out of turn four Schroeder would take the win
by a couple of feet. Jeffrey Larson had to settle for second
followed by Stefan Sybesma, Luke Saathoff, and Jim Larson. Heat
race wins went to Trent Schroeder and Jesse Baer.
The 12-lap IMCA
Hobby Stock feature race saw two cautions slow the action. At the
start of the race it was Jerry Gronewold, Worthington MN, getting
the early lead from his outside row one starting spot. On lap two
the caution came for Matt Harris, Graettinger IA, who spun. By the
third lap Cody Lucas, moved up to second from his eighth starting
spot. On lap four Lucas and Gronewold would race side by side. On
the next lap Lucas would move around Gronewold and take the lead,
although Gronewold not give up and still challenge Lucas for the
lead. On lap eight the caution came out when Drew Barglof, Sioux
Rapids IA, came to stop in turn three. On the restart, Lucas would
maintain the lead but Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, moved into the
second spot with Dan Thate, Fairmont MN, getting the third spot. As
the race wound down Cody Lucas would maintain the lead and go on to
pick up the win. Dan Strandberg took second followed by Dan Thate,
Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, and Jerry Gronewold. Heat races were
won by Jerry Gronewold and Dustin Larson.
