Drost, Knudson, Schroeder, and Larson take Jackson Wins
By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (July 21, 2007) - A rather pleasant day greeted race fans for Race Days Weekend/Ag-Co Employee Night at the Jackson Speedway with the nights event sponsored by Weseman Engineering of Alpha MN and Forbes Meat and Liquor Locker of Spirit Lake.  The nights feature race wins went to Jesse Drost, Rushmore MN, Q102 Sprints; Scott Knudson, Elkton SD, Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints; Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; and Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Four cautions slowed the action in the 20-lap Q102 Sprint Car feature race.  At the start it was Jesse Drost getting the early lead from his outside row one starting spot.  Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA, would grab the second spot with Brandon Geldner, St. Peter MN, the third position.  On lap two Bill Boles, Harris IA, moved into the third spot getting by Geldner.  The leaders would race in this order for the next several laps until the caution came out on lap eight for Jake Leighty, Worthington MN, who stopped on the front straightaway when something broke, forcing him to the infield on the wrecker.  On the restart, Drost would stay up front but Curt Lund, Redwood Falls MN, would charge from the fourth spot to second, forcing Toews and Boles back to third and fourth.  Lap ten saw the caution come out for Boles when he had something break on the front end of this sprinter also forcing him from the race.  On the restart Drost again would keep the field behind as Lund ran second and Toews third.  Three more laps got in the books when another caution came out for Joe Riedel, Harrisburg SD, who spun out of turn four.  Once again on the restart Drost kept the field behind him as Lund ran second and Toews third.  The races final caution came out on lap fifteen when Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, slowed on the back straightaway.  Vogelaar was able to get to the work area, as he was just about out of fuel.  Vogelaar could not get the car to restart, and ended his night in the pits.  The restart again saw Drost keep the field behind him as Lund would make an attempt to get the lead on the restart but could not make the pass.  Jesse Drost would lead the remaining laps and go on to pick his first Sprint Car feature race win at the Jackson Speedway.  Curt Lund was second followed by Mark Toews, Jeremy Dronen, Heron Lake MN, and Mitch Runge, Sioux Falls SD.  Heat race wins went to Gordy Vogelaar, Mitch Runge, and Mike Young, Windom MN.

It was all Scott Knudson in the 15-lap Pizza Ranch Limited Sprint Car feature race.  At the start it was Knudson getting the early lead from his outside row one starting spot.  Nate Eakin, Milford IA, would grab the second spot with Doug Bratrud the third position.  The leaders would race in this order through the first nine laps of the event with Bratrud challenging Eakin for the second spot on lap nine.  On lap ten Bratrud was able to make the pass and get by Eakin for the second spot.  On lap twelve Steve Yarns, Jackson MN, and Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, made heavy contact on the front straightaway while battling for the fourth spot.  Yarns would end up going over the front end of Anderson’s car causing damage to the left side of Yarns’ machine and the front of Anderson’s.  Both drivers were ok but done for the night.  On the restart Scott Knudson kept Bratrud and the field behind him and went on to take the win.  Doug Bratrud took second followed by Nate Eakin, Mark Hodgins, Spencer IA, and Mike Blomstrom, Lakeville MN.  Heat races went to Bruce Anderson and Scott Knudson.

Three different drivers led in the Performance Center IMCA Stock Car feature race.  At the start it was Aaron Hansen, Estherville IA, getting the early lead from his outside pole starting spot.  Jake Masters, Graettinger IA, would get the second spot with Gary Bannister, Lakefield MN, the third spot.  Lap two saw Jeffrey Larson go from the fourth spot to second while Masters went back to third and Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, moving up through the field.  On lap three Jeffrey Larson would move into the lead as Schroeder now battled Hansen for the second spot.  On lap four Schroeder moved into second with Masters and Hansen now side by side for the third spot.  As the hard racing up front continued Trent Schroeder would make his move out of turn two to move into the lead on lap six.  Jeffrey Larson then ran second with Hansen in third.  The leaders raced in this order for the next several laps.  With Schroeder still up front and the field about to take the white flag, Jeffrey Larson would pull his car into the pit area after running up front through the entire race.  That gave second place to Masters who tried to catch Schroeder but was unable to.  When the checkered flag flew it was Trent Schroeder picking up the win followed by Jake Masters, Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, Gary Bannister, and Aaron Hansen.  Heat race winners were Jake Masters, and Jeffrey Larson.

The twelve lap Hobby Stock feature race went green-white-checkered.  At the start it was Chad Carlson, Ormsby MN, getting the early lead from his outside pole starting spot.  Darryl Bortvit, Estherville IA, would get the second spot with Brodie McKeown, Heron Lake MN, the third spot.  The leaders raced in this order for the first two laps when Dustin Larson made his move into the third spot and a lap later moved into second, with Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, right on his tail.  Carlson would stay up front and was now pursued by Larson and Strandberg.  On lap eight Larson would pass Carlson for the lead coming out of turn two, as Strandberg challenged Carlson now for the second spot.  On lap ten Dan Thate, Fairmont MN, would challenge Carlson for the third spot, and Thate would move into the position on lap eleven.  With the white flag displayed to the field Strandberg would challenge Larson for the lead and as they raced side by side into turn three a lap car would slow up Strandberg, which allowed Dustin Larson to go on to take the win unchallenged.  Dan Strandberg had to settle for second followed by Dan Thate, Cody Lucas, Cherokee IA, and Chad Carlson.  Heat races were won by Dan Strandberg and Chad Carlson.

Next weekend KKOJ/KRAQ Radio of Jackson and The Performance Center of Estherville IA, will sponsor a special night of racing action for the Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks, as there will be extra money on the line for those two classes.  $500 to win to $100 to start the Stock Car feature race and $300 to win and $60 to start for the Hobby Stock feature.  The Q102 Sprints and Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints will also be action.  Hot Laps will be at 7:00 p.m. with racing to follow.
