Van Wyhe, Blomstrom, Larson, and Strandberg take Jackson Wins
By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (July 7, 2007) - It was a hot night of racing, both temperature and racing wise, this past Saturday night at the Jackson Speedway for Lite Form Midwest of Jackson and KICD Radio of Spencer IA, race night.  Picking up the nights feature race wins were Shawn Van Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA, Q102 Sprints; Mike Blomstrom, Lakeville MN, Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints; Jim Larson, Rushmore MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; and Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Two red flags stopped action in the 20-lap Q102 Sprint car feature race.  At the start it was Brandon Geldner, St. Peter MN, getting the early lead from his pole starting spot.  Jesse Drost, Rushmore MN, would get the second spot with Nick Lusk, Jackson MN, the third position.  On lap two Lusk would get too high and allow Casey Heser, Jackson MN, and Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, to get by.  Lap three saw Vogelaar move into the third spot getting by Heser.  Another lap would get in when the yellow flag flew for Shawn Van Wyhe who came to a stop after spinning off of turn two.  On the restart Geldner would maintain the lead as Drost continued in second and Bill Boles, Harris IA, would move into third on the restart getting by Vogelaar.  The leaders would race in this order until lap eight when the red flag came out for Boles who got upside down in turn four when his left rear tire let go.  Boles was ok and on the restart Geldner would hold the field off, only to see the caution again with one more lap complete.  On the restart Geldner again kept the field behind as Drost raced in second and Vogelaar in third.  The final caution of the race came out on lap thirteen when Stephanie Dicks, Rochester MN, spun on the back straightaway.  The restart once again saw Geldner keep the field behind, as Drost and Vogelaar ran second and third.  As the field was about to get the white flag Vogelaar and Drost made contact in turn four sending Vogelaar up and over several times.  Vogelaar was ok but the car was done for the night.  On the restart Shawn Van Wyhe was able to get by Geldner and to go on to pick up the win, along with an extra $400 in the Brinkman and Reed Need for Speed Challenge.  Brandon Geldner had to settle for second followed by Jeremy Dronen, Heron Lake MN, Jake Leighty, Worthington MN, and Casey Heser, Jackson MN.  Heat race winners were Brandon Geldner and Shawn Van Wyhe.

It was all Mike Blomstrom in the 15-lap Pizza Ranch Limited Sprint car feature race.  At the start the caution came when Scott Knudson, Elkton SD, spun his car in turn two.  On the complete restart Blomstrom was able to get the lead from his outside row one starting position.  Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, got the second spot with Nate Eakin, Milford IA, the third position.  The leaders raced in that order for the first five laps when Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, was able to get by Eakin for the third position.  As the race went on Blomstrom would pull away from the field but Anderson would be right on the tail of Friedrichsen looking for the second spot as Doug Bratrud, Jackson MN, looked to get Eakin for the fourth position.  Anderson would make several attempts for second but Friedrichsen would always keep him behind.  As the race wound down Mike Blomstrom would go on to take his first ever sprint car feature race win.  Bruce Anderson would get by Casey Friedrichsen at the line for second.  Nate Eakin would take fourth followed by Doug Bratrud.  Heat races went to Bruce Anderson and Casey Friedrichsen.

Three different drivers led in the 15-lap Performance Center IMCA Stock Car feature that went down to the line by inches.  At the start it was Gary Bannister, Lakefield MN, getting the early lead from his outside row one starting spot.  Aaron Hanson, Estherville IA, would get the second spot with Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, the third spot.  The leaders raced in this order for the first three laps until the races only caution came out when Brice Bodle, Wallingford IA, spun in turns one and two following contact with another car.  On the restart, Jeff Senne would move up into the second spot as Jeffrey Larson, Rushmore MN, and Jim Larson, Rushmore MN, raced third and fourth.  On lap five Jeffrey Larson challenged Senne for second and on lap six Senne would make a challenge for the lead on Bannister.  Lap seven saw Senne keep the pressure on Bannister as Jim and Jeffrey Larson raced for the third spot.  On lap eight the top four spots were up for grabs as Senne, Jim and Jeffrey Larson, and Bannister raced in a tight pack on the front straightaway.  Lap nine saw Senne with the lead as Jeffrey Larson put pressure on him also wanting the lead.  Lap ten saw Jim and Jeffrey Larson swap positions and on lap twelve it was Jim Larson looking to get by Senne for the lead.  The remaining laps saw Jim Larson keep the pressure on Senne and as the field worked its way out of turn four it was Jim Larson taking the win by a mere few inches at the line.  Jeff Senne had to settle for second followed by Stefan Sybesma who got by Jeffrey Larson on the last lap.  Jeffrey Larson would cross the line in fourth but was disqualified when he was found to have illegal parts.  So that moved the rest of the finishing order up one spot and gave fourth to Justin Luinenberg, Reading MN, followed by Luke Saathoff, Belle Plaine MN.  Heat races were won by Jeff Senne and Justin Luinenberg.

Two different drivers led in the 12-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature race.  At the start it was Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, getting the early lead from his outside row two starting spot.  Chad Carlson, Ormsby MN, would get the second spot with Josh Sidles, Emmetsburg IA, the third spot.  On lap two Sidles would get by Carlson and move into the second spot and on lap three Dan Thate, Fairmont MN, would challenge Sidles for second.  On lap four the caution came out for Thate who came to a stop in turn four.  On the restart Larson kept the field behind as Sidles raced in second and Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, was third.  On laps seven Strandberg got by Sidles to move into second.  As the laps wound down Dan Strandberg would slowly reel in Larson and would pass him on the last lap and go on to take the win.  Dustin Larson had to settle for second as Josh Sidles would cross the line in third but refused an IMCA engine claim and was disqualified.  That moved the finishing order up one spot and gave third to Adam Ecker, Comfrey MN, followed by Matt Harris, Graettinger IA, and Dan Thate.  Heat races were won by Chad Carlson, Ormsby MN, and Matt Harris.

Next Saturday night will be another regular night of racing sponsored by Bank Midwest, Golden Fenders, and Seasonal Spruce Up, all of Jackson MN.  All four classes will be in action including the Q102 Sprints, Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars, and IMCA Hobby Stocks.  Hot laps at 7:00 p.m. with racing to follow.
