Swenson, Voss, Schroeder, and Strandberg take Pre-Nationals Wins!
By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (August 11, 2007) - On a hot and muggy night with lightning to the east of the speedway, race teams checked in for the final tune-up for the 29th Annual Kemna-Asa Auto Plaza Jackson Nationals.  Picking up the feature race wins on pilotracewaynews.com and Mediacom night were Chuck Swenson, Watertown SD, Q102 Sprints; Ryan Voss, Okoboji IA, Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints; Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; and Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, IMCA Hobby Stocks.

The 20-lap Q102 Sprint Car feature race saw two different leaders.  At the start it was Shawn Van Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA, getting the early lead.  While the field was working on lap two Chuck Swenson slowed on the back straightaway bringing out the caution flag.  With one lap in the books Swenson would have to restart at the rear of the field.  On the restart, Van Wyhe would keep the field behind, as Jesse Drost, Rushmore MN, raced in second and Jake Leighty, Worthington MN, raced third.  At the end of lap two the caution came out again when Troy Manteufel, St. Peter MN, spun in turn three.  The restart saw Van Wyhe keep the field behind and while working on lap four Leighty would drop out of the race and Bill Boles, Harris IA, picked up the third spot.  With Van Wyhe up front, Drost maintained second with Boles, third.  On lap seven Boles got high in turn two allowing several cars to get by.  On lap eight Chuck Swenson would charge from the fifth spot up to third spot. On lap twelve Swenson charged from the third spot to the lead passing both Van Wyhe and Drost for the number one spot going into turn three.  On lap thirteen Drost would get by Van Wyhe for the second spot.  With Swenson now up front Drost would run second followed by Van Wyhe and Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN.  On lap fifteen Vogelaar moved into third as Van Wyhe fell back in the field.  Chuck Swenson would lead the last five laps unchallenged and go on to pick up the win.  Jesse Drost took second followed by Gordy Vogelaar, Bill Boles, and Chad Meyer, Sioux Falls SD.  Heat races went to Chad Meyer and Jesse Drost.

Two different drivers led in the 15-lap Pizza Ranch Limited Sprint Car feature race.  At the start it was Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, getting the early lead from his outside row one starting position.  Jeff Metli, Mason City IA, would get the second spot with Ryan Voss, Okoboji IA, the third position.  The leaders raced in this order for the first four laps when Voss made his move into the second spot getting by Metli.  Metli however got second back from Voss on lap six only to loss the spot again on the seventh lap.  With Anderson still up front Voss would run second and Metli third.  On the tenth lap Voss would get by Anderson in turns three and four and move into the lead.  Ryan Voss would lead the last five laps and go on to pick up the win.  He was followed by Bruce Anderson, Jeff Metli, Doug Bratrud, Jackson MN, and Mike Blomstrom, Lakeville MN.  Heat races were won by Ryan Voss and Jeff Metli.

The 15-lap Performance Center IMCA Stock Car feature race saw two different leaders.  At the start Brice Bodle, Wallingford IA, would get the lead with Trent Schroeder the second spot, and Gary Bannister, Lakefield MN, the third position.  On lap two Schroeder got by Bodle sending him back to second.  The leaders now raced with Schroeder up front followed by Bodle and Bannister.  On lap nine the caution came out when Mark DeVary, Estherville IA, came to a stop in turn two.  On the restart Bannister and Justin Luinenberg, Reading MN, made contact resulting in Luinenberg getting a flat tire, which he came to the work area to change.  On the next restart, Schroeder kept the field behind him as Bodle continued to race second and Bannister third.  While working on lap twelve, Bannister got high in turn two allowing Stefan Sybesma, Sanborn IA, and Luke Saathoff, Belle Plaine MN to get by.  On the next lap Saathoff got by Sybesma and moved into the third spot.  When the checkered flag fell it was Trent Schroeder picking up the win followed by Brice Bodle, Luke Saathoff, Stefan Sybesma, and Chad Raverty, Heron Lake MN.  Heat race wins went to Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, and Trent Schroeder.

Three different drivers led in the 12-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature race.  At the start it was Chad Carlson, Ormsby MN, getting the early lead with Adam Ecker, Comfrey MN, the second spot and Brodie McKeown, Heron Lake MN, the third spot.  On lap two Ecker got by Carlson going into turn three to get the lead.  Lap three saw Dan Thate, Fairmont MN, and Strandberg battle for position.  The next lap Strandberg moved into the second spot as Carlson went back to third.  On lap seven the battle for the lead heated up as Strandberg would challenge for the lead.  While working on lap nine Strandberg would make his move coming out of turn two to take the lead.  On the white flag lap Ecker and Thate would battle for second.  When the checkered flag flew it was Dan Strandberg picking up the win. Dan Thate would cross the line in second only to be disqualified when his car did not pass tech.  That moved the finishing order up one spot and gave second to Adam Ecker, followed by Brodie McKeown, Shawn Klaassen, Little Rock IA, and Bill Woodcock, Spencer IA.  Heat races went to Dan Strandberg and Chad Carlson.
