Van Wyhe, Edgington, Schroeder, and Strandberg take season championship night wins
By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (September 1, 2007) - The 2007 season wrapped up under clear skies this past Saturday night at the Jackson Speedway.  Picking up the nights feature races on Arnold Motor Supply Night were Shawn Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA, Q102 Sprints; Jeff Edgington, Sioux Falls SD, Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints; Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; and Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Congratulations to the 2007 Track Champions Bill Boles, Harris IA, Q102 Sprints; Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints; Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; and Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Two different drivers led in the 20-lap Q102 Sprint Car feature race.  At the start it was Nick Lusk, Jackson MN, getting the early lead from his outside row one starting spot.  Casey Heser, Jackson MN, grabbed the second spot with Shawn Van Wyhe, the third position.  The leaders raced in this order through the first three laps when Van Wyhe made his move into the second spot.  Van Wyhe would then set his sights on Lusk and close up on him several times and challenge him for the lead.  On lap eight they raced side by side for the lead and it was Van Wyhe who crossed the line by a narrow margin to lead the lap.  While working on lap ten Scott Winters, Butterfield MN, moved from the fourth spot into the second position as he got by Lusk and Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA, who had been running in the third spot.  Winters then looked to challenge Van Wyhe for the lead but that soon ended as a big puff of smoke came for the engine compartment in turn two on lap eleven.  On the restart the caution came out again when Brett Geldner, St. Peter MN, slowed and came to a stop off of the back straightaway.  On the restart Van Wyhe would keep the field behind him as Mark Toews would get around Lusk on the next lap and move into second.  The next lap Chad Meyer, Sioux Falls SD, challenged Lusk for the third spot and got by him, to get the position.  Lusk would lose another spot on lap fifteen as Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, moved into the fourth spot.  As the laps wound down with Van Wyhe up front, Meyer would move up to challenge Toews for second.  When the checkered flag flew it was Shawn Van Wyhe picking up the win.  Chad Meyer was able to get by Mark Toews for second.  Toews had to settle for third while Gordy Vogelaar took fourth and Nick Lusk fifth.  Heat races went to Gordy Vogelaar and Mark Toews.

Two red flags marred the action of the fifteen lap Pizza Ranch Limited Sprint Car feature.  On the opening lap, Steve Yarns, Jackson MN, clipped a tire on the bottom of turn two causing him to get upside down.  Yarns walked away from the mishap but he was done for the night.  On the complete restart, Doug Bratrud, Jackson MN, and Nate Eakin, Milford IA, get together on the front straightaway, which broke Bratrud’s front end.  On the restart Jeff Edgington, got the lead with Mark Hodgins, Spencer IA, in second and Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, in third.  On the next lap Friedrichsen got by Hodgins, but he did not give up continuing to challenge for the position.  On lap four Mike Blomstrom, Lakeville MN, got by Friedrichsen, and the next lap Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, was also able to get by.  On lap six the red flag came out again when Jake Nicosen, Ringsted IA, got into the front straightaway wall flipping and destroying the car.  Jake got out of the car slowly but was able to walk away.  Once again on the restart Edgington kept the field behind as Hodgins ran second and Blomstrom ran third.  The leaders raced in this order for several laps until Anderson was able to get by Hodgins for second with two laps to go.  When the checkered flag flew it was Jeff Edgington picking up the win followed by Bruce Anderson, and Mark Hodgins, Spencer IA.  Mike Blomstrom did cross the line in fourth but was disqualified when came up light at the scales.  That moved the finishing order up one spot and gave fourth to Scott Knudson, Elkton SD, and fifth to Nate Eakin.  Heat races went to Mark Hodgins and Mike Blomstrom.

Only one caution flag slowed action in the 15-lap Performance Center IMCA Stock Car feature.  At the start it was Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, getting the early lead from his outside row two starting spot.  Gary Bannister, Lakefield MN, grabbed the second spot with Justin Luinenberg, Reading MN, the third spot. On lap two Luinenberg was able to get by Bannister for second spot.  The leaders then raced in this order until lap five when the caution came out for Brice Bodle, Wallingford IA, who spun in turns three and four.  On the restart Senne kept the field behind, but as the race went on Schroeder would catch Senne and make his move into the lead coming out of turn four.  One lap later Senne lost second to Luinenberg and would continue to fall back in the field.  As the laps wound down Trent Schroeder would go on unchallenged and pick up the feature race win.  Justin Luinenberg took second followed by Luke Saathoff, Belle Plaine MN, Gary Bannister, Brice Bodle, and Jeff Senne.  The heat race was won by Luke Saathoff.

The 12-lap IMCA Hobby Stock Feature saw two different leaders, which went green, white, checkered.  At the start of the race it was Adam Ecker, Comfrey getting the early lead as Dan Strandberg grabbed the second spot with Derrick Barglof, Sioux Rapids IA, the third spot.  On lap two Jerad Fisher, Brewster MN, got past Barglof as he fell back in the field.  On lap five Strandberg made his move into the lead getting by Ecker coming out of turn two.  Strandberg would then pull away from Ecker and the rest of the field.  As the race wound down Dan Strandberg would go on to pick up the feature and the 2007 track championship.  Adam Ecker took second followed by Jerad Fisher, Chad Carlson, Ormsby MN, and Derrick Barglof, Sioux Rapids.  The heat race was won by Dan Strandberg.

This past Saturday night was the final night of racing for the 2007 season at the Jackson Speedway.  Jackson Speedway would like to thank all the sponsors, race fans and race teams for making it all possible.  Be sure to check www.jacksonspeedway.com for off season updates and the 2008 racing schedule coming out soon.
