Toews, Anderson, Saathoff, and Briggs take Jackson Wins
By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (June 14, 2008) – On a night that started out with mostly clear skies, the Jackson Speedway ended up just getting the program complete when a rain shower moved through Jackson.  Picking up the nights feature race wins on GKN employee night were Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA, Andy’s Tree Service of Wallingford IA 360 Sprints; Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, Double Barrel Sprints; Luke Saathoff, Jackson MN, Performance Center of Estherville IA IMCA Stock Cars; and John Briggs, Calumet IA, Yellow Book Hobby Stocks.

Two different drivers led in the 20-lap Andy’s Tree Service 360 Sprint Car feature race.  At the drop of the green it was Troy Manteufel, St. Peter MN, getting the early lead from his pole starting position.  Manteufel would lead the first several laps of the race as he began to pull away from second place running Brandon Geldner, St. Peter MN.  On lap five Mark Toews, who started in the fourth spot worked his way into second getting by Geldner.  Toews then set his sights on getting the lead as he was able to catch up to Manteufel who had a comfortable lead on the field.  As Manteufel and Toews raced into turn one on lap eight Toews would get underneath him and make the pass for the lead.  On lap nine the caution flag came out when Brett Geldner, St. Peter MN, spun in turn four.  Toews would keep the field behind him on the restart, but only one more lap would get in as Jake Leighty, Worthington MN, and Jason Eckard, Milford IA, got tangled up on the front straightaway coming out of turn four.  Both drivers were able to restart the race, and on the restart Toews once again kept the field behind him.  On lap thirteen, Wade Nygaard, who started in the ninth spot worked his way into the second position getting by Manteufel.  Nygaard would then set his sights on Toews to try and reel him in.  However, the break Nygaard needed came a lap later when Jake Leighty spun in turn four.  On the restart Toews had too much for Nygaard and was able to pull away from him.  Mark Toews would lead the remaining six laps caution free and go on to pick up the win.  Wade Nygaard had to settle for second followed by Troy Manteufel, Curt Lund, Redwood Falls MN, and Jesse Drost, Rushmore MN.  Heat race wins went to Brett Geldner and Wade Nygaard.

Only one caution flag slowed Bruce Anderson enroute to picking up his first feature Double Barrel Sprint win of the season at the Jackson Speedway.  Anderson who started on the pole position set it on cruise control.  When the field completed lap one Jake Nicosen, Ringsted IA, had the second spot with Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, the third spot.  On lap two Nicosen would fall back in the field as Frank Phipps, Everly IA, moved into the third spot.  The field would now race for several laps with Bruce Anderson up front followed by Casey Friedrichsen, Frank Phipps and Mark Hodgins, Spencer IA.  On lap twelve the caution flag came out when Jake Nicosen spun in turn two.  On the restart, Anderson kept the field behind but Friedrichsen was unable to hold off Phipps who got by him for second.  When the checkered flag flew it was Bruce Anderson taking the win followed by Frank Phipps, Casey Friedrichsen, Mike Blomstrom, Ft. Dodge IA, and Mark Hodgins.  Mike Blomstrom and Frank Phipps picked up the heat race wins.

Three different drivers led in the 15-lap Performance Center of Estherville IMCA Stock Car feature race.  At the start it was Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, getting the early from his outside row two starting spot.  Justin Luinenberg, Reading MN, would get the second spot with Derek Voehl, Lakefield MN, the third spot.  On lap two Voehl would fall back in the field as Luke Saathoff moved into third as Luinenberg began to challenge Senne for the lead.  When the field crossed the finish line at lap three it was Luinenberg by inches with the lead over Senne as the two raced side by side.  Senne would however get the lead back on lap four as Luke Saathoff came up to challenge Luinenberg for second.  On the sixth lap Saathoff challenged Senne for the lead while Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, challenged Luinenberg for the third spot.  The leaders raced in a tight pack for the next several laps until Luinenberg dropped out of the race on lap ten.  On lap twelve Saathoff was able to get by Senne and this time make it stick.  Luke Saathoff would then lead the remaining three laps with a tight pack behind and go on to pick-up the win.  Jeff Senne was second followed by Trent Schroeder, Stefan Sybesma, Sanborn IA, and Matt Hagedorn, Royal IA.  Heat races were won by Gary Bannister, Lakefield MN, and Luke Saathoff.

The 12-lap Yellow Book Hobby Stock feature race was led start to finish by John Briggs.  At the start of the race Briggs would take the early lead from his outside row two starting spot after outside pole sitter Bill Woodcock, Spencer IA, got too high in turn two.  With Briggs out front Ernie Dailey, Worthington MN would race in the second spot with Adam Ecker, Comfrey MN, in the third spot.  On lap three the caution came out when point leader Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, suffered a flat tire coming to a stop on the front straightaway.  Strandberg would make the repairs and restart at the tail of the field.  It took three tries to get the race restarted as there were two bad restarts.  Once underway Briggs would keep the field behind him with Dailey in the second spot and Ecker in third.  On lap ten Dan Strandberg would move from the fourth spot to second getting by Dailey and then third place running Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN.  However Strandberg would not have enough time to catch Briggs.  John Briggs would take the win followed by Dan Strandberg, Dustin Larson, Ernie Dailey, and Adam Ecker.  Heat races were won by Adam Ecker and John Briggs.

This Saturday night the Jackson Speedway will host the longest running annual event at the Speedway, the 31st Annual University of Okoboji Race Night, sponsored by Forbes Meats of Spirit Lake and KICD Radio of Spencer IA.   The event will be a Jackson Speedway Touring Series race with Twin Features each paying $1200 to win and $200 to start.  The Double Barrels along with the Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks will also be in action.  Hot laps will be at 7:00 p.m. with racing to follow.
