Nygaard, Phipps, Luinenberg, Reutzel, and Woodcock take Jackson Wins
By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (July 26, 2008) – One could not order a more perfect night for racing, as mostly clear skies, a light south breeze and comfortable temps greeted race fans and teams for State Bank of Fairmont and Welcome Meats night this past Saturday night at Jackson Speedway.  Picking up the A Features were Wade Nygaard, Fargo ND, Andy’s Tree Service 360 Sprints; Frank Phipps, Everly IA, Double Barrel Sprints; Justin Luinenberg, Reading MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; Tad Reutzel, Burt IA, B Modifieds; and Bill Woodcock, Spencer IA, Yellow Book Hobby Stocks.

It was all Wade Nygaard in the 20-lap Sprint Car feature race.  On the first start the caution came out when Shawn Van Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA, came to a stop on the back straightaway.  On the complete restart, it was Wade Nygaard getting the lead from his outside row one starting spot.  After the first lap was completed the red flag came out when Jason Eckard, Okoboji IA, got off the track in turn one going up and over and stopping at the guardrail off of turn one.  Eckard was ok but done for the night the night.  On the restart, Nygaard held off the field as Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, raced in the second spot with Lee Grosz, Harwood ND, racing in third.  As Nygaard raced up front, Jody Rosenboom, Rock Rapids IA, would close up on Grosz and challenge him for the third spot.  Rosenboom got by Grosz as the field worked on the fifth lap.  As the race continued on Nygaard ran up front followed by Vogelaar, Rosenboom, and Grosz.  On the eleventh lap the yellow came out for Grosz, who got up too high in turns one and two and went off the track, spinning and coming to a stop in the grass.  Grosz was able to restart, but now had to try and work his way up through the field.  On the restart, Nygaard held off Vogelaar and Rosenboom.  Wade Nygaard would then build up a comfortable lead on the field and go on to take the win.  Gordy Vogelaar settled for second followed by Jody Rosenboom, Brandon Geldner, and Jesse Drost, Rushmore MN.  Heat races went to Wade Nygaard, Shawn Van Wyhe, and Gordy Vogelaar.

The 12-lap Double Barrel Sprint Car feature race went green-white-checkered.  It was Frank Phipps getting the lead from his outside row one starting spot.  Phipps would lead the entire race unchallenged and pick up the win.  Nate Eakin, Milford IA, took second, followed by Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, Mike Blomstrom, Ft. Dodge IA, and Mark Hodgins, Spencer IA.  Frank Phipps also took the heat race win.

It was a 15-lap green-white-checkered feature for the IMCA Stock Cars.  At the start Justin Luinenberg got the lead from his outside row one starting spot.  Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, would get the second spot with Luke Sathoff, Jackson MN, getting the third position.  The leaders raced in a tight pack in this order for many laps as the battle for fourth on back was heated among Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, Derek Voehl, Lakefield MN, and Roger Verdoorn, Sibley IA.  As the race neared the two thirds mark Trent Schroeder was looking to battle Sathoff for the third spot. On the eleventh lap Schroeder was able to get by Sathoff and take the position.  As the race was nearing its end, Senne would still be on Luinenberg’s back bumper, but could never make the pass.  When the checkered flag flew it was Justin Luinenberg picking up the win followed by Jeff Senne, Trent Schroeder, Luke Sathoff, and Mark DeVary, Estherville IA.  Heat races were won by Brice Bodle, Wallingford IA, and Jeff Senne.

Two different drivers led in the 15-lap B Mod feature.  A complete restart was needed at the start of the race as Dan Paplow, Dundee MN, stopped coming out of turn two and Eric Kinnetz, Spirit Lake IA, spun coming out of turn four.  On the restart it was Travis DeBoer, Fairmont MN, getting the early lead.  Eric Kinnetz, would grab the second spot, and Danny Mryvold, Heron Lake MN, would grab the third position.  On lap three, Tad Reutzel would move into the third position, after starting in the ninth spot.  By lap five, Reutzel would challenge Kinnetz for second and get by him for that position.  With DeBoer up front Reutzel ran in second and Kinnetz in third for the next several laps.  On lap eight the caution came out when Tom Brown spun his car in turn two.  On the restart, Reutzel would challenge DeBoer for the lead, they would race side by side for the next two laps until Reutzel finally got by DeBoer coming out of turn four.  After getting the lead Tad Reutzel kept the field behind him, surviving one restart, and went on to take the win.  He was followed by Travis DeBoer, Eric Kinnetz, Danny Myrvold, Heron Lake MN, and Devin Spoo, Estherville IA.  Heat races went to Tad Reutzel and Travis DeBoer.

The 12-lap Hobby Stock feature was stopped after 10 laps, due to numerous cautions, half the field already out of the race, and the time limit expiring.  At the start, several cars got together in turn two forcing a complete restart.  When the race got underway it was Ryan Roder, Marathon IA, getting the early lead.  Roder led the first two laps when Bill Woodcock made his move into the lead.  On lap three another caution came out when Sami Jo Helmers, Dunnell MN, spun in turn four, and also Chad Taylor, Fairmont MN, and Jim Johnson, Spirit Lake IA, got together on the back straightaway, sending Johnson off the track into a guardrail off the back stretch.  On the restart Woodcock held the field off, as Roder raced in second and Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, third. Woodcock would survive three more caution flags, when officials said this is it, and as the field came out of turn four under caution the checkered flags were displayed and Bill Woodcock picked up the win.  It was his first ever feature win in his four years of racing.  Ryan Roder was second followed by Dustin Larson, Chad Taylor, and Tim Rupp, Cherokee IA.  Heat races went to Dan Wedel, Fairmont MN, and Bill Woodcock.

Next Saturday night will be Hall of Fame night at the Jackson Speedway, with races sponsored by Dirt Track race cars of Estherville IA and Jackson Sports of Jackson.  The Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m. in the Anderson building on the Jackson County Fairgrounds, as part of the 140th Annual Jackson County Fair.  The racing program will get underway with hot laps at 7:00 with racing to follow featuring all five classes of cars.  Following the racing program there will be fireworks.
