Nygaard, Anderson, Tietz, Gochanour, and Strandberg take Pre-Nationals Wins

Jackson Minnesota (August 9, 2008) – Under partly cloudy skies with rumbles of thunder in the distance, the Jackson Speedway held its final tune-up before this weekend’s 30th Annual Kemna-Asa Auto Plaza Jackson Nationals.  Picking up the nights feature wins on Heser Auto and Detailing and KKOJ/KRAQ Radio Race night were Wade Nygaard, Fargo ND, Andy’s Tree Service 360 Sprints; Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, Double Barrel Sprints; Ken Tietz, Belle Plaine MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; Troy Gochanour, Armstrong IA, B Modifieds; and Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, Hobby Stocks.

Two different drivers led in the 20-lap 360 Sprint Car feature. At the start it was Jody Rosenboom, Rock Rapids IA, getting the early lead from his inside pole starting spot.  Jesse Drost, Rushmore MN, would grab the second spot with Wade Nygaard getting the third position.  The leaders raced in this order for the first two laps when Nygaard made his move into the second spot getting by Drost for second on lap three.  With Rosenboom continuing to lead, Nygaard would go to work at reeling in Rosenboom.  As the race neared the cross flags Nygaard would pass Rosenboom coming out of turn two while working on lap eleven.  On the thirteenth lap the caution came out when Brett Geldner, St. Peter MN, blew his right rear tire, forcing him to stop on the front straightaway and putting him in the pit area and calling it a night.  On the restart Nygaard would hold off Rosenboom, lead the remaining laps and go on to pick up his fourth wins of the season at the Jackson Speedway.  Jody Rosenboom would take second followed by Jesse Drost, Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, and Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA.  Heat race wins went to Wade Nygaard and Jesse Drost.

Once it was started, it was green all the way in the 12-lap Double Barrel Sprint car feature race.  A bad start bunched the field back up for a second try, and getting the early lead was Mark Hodgins, Spencer IA.  Jake Nicosen, Ringsted IA, would get the second spot with Bruce Anderson the third position.  On lap two Anderson would move around Nicosen and then race Hodgins for the lead on lap three.  Once up front, Anderson would set the car on cruise, and go on to take the win.  Mark Hodgins held on for second and was followed by Jake Nicosen, Ringsted IA, Mike Blomstrom, Ft. Dodge IA, and Nate Eakin, Milford IA.  The heat race was won by Jake Nicosen.

The 15-lap Stock Car feature saw only one caution and two different drivers lead.  At the start it was Klaus Deuschle, Reading MN, getting the early lead.  Ken Tietz would get the second spot as Roger Verdoorn, Sibley IA, would grab the third spot.  The leaders would then race in this order for the first half of the race, as the main action was for fourth on back.  While working on lap ten, Deuschle would get too high in turns three and four and allow several cars to get by him.  He would lose even more spots as the field raced into turns one and two.  Second place running Ken Tietz was there to take advantage of Deuschle’s mishap, and move into the lead.  On lap twelve the battle for second heated up as Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, and Roger Verdoorn battled for position, and on lap thirteen, was able to get by him for the second spot.  When the checkered flag flew it was Ken Tietz taking the win followed by Trent Schroeder, Roger Verdoorn, Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, and Justin Luinenberg, Reading MN.  The heat races were won by Justin Luinenberg, Jeff Senne, and Jason Mickelson, Strom Lake IA.

From his inside pole starting spot it was all Troy Gochanour in the 12-lap green-white-checkered B Modified feature race.  At the start, Gochanour would grab the early lead as Kyle Steuber, Fairmont MN, ran second and Dan Paplow, Dundee MN, raced in third.  The leaders would race in this order for the first half of the race but the whole time Steuber was right on Gochanour’s tail.  As the race went past the half way point Gochanour would pull away from the field.  On lap seven there was a battle for the third spot as Josh Ruby, Lakota IA would challenge Paplow for position.  Ruby would get by Paplow putting him back to fourth.  As the race wound down it was Troy Gochanour going on to take his second win in a row and third of the season at the Jackson Speedway.  Kyle Steuber finished second followed by Josh Ruby, Jason Fisher, Lakefield MN, and Ken Odegaard, Welcome MN.  Heat races went to Kyle Steuber, and Troy Gochanour.

The 12-lap Hobby Stock feature saw plenty of excitement.  At the start the caution flag was thrown when Colton Knudson, Westbrook MN, spun coming out of turn two sending cars everywhere trying to avoid hitting him, which no one did.  On the complete restart it was Josh Bonnestetter, Slayton MN, getting the lead.  Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, would get the second spot.  As the race went on the Dan Strandberg would work his way into the third spot, after starting tenth.  Two caution flags would slow action before the half way point in the race, but Bonnestetter would maintain the lead.  On lap seven Strandberg would challenge Larson for second, then get by him on the eighth lap coming out of turn two.  On lap nine, Strandberg wanted the lead and got it at the line by a mere few inches over Bonnestetter.  Larson, who was now in third would then challenge Bonnestetter for second and get by him on the tenth lap.  When the checkered flag flew it was Dan Strandberg picking up the win followed Dustin Larson, Josh Bonnestetter, John Briggs, Calumet IA, and Guy Kimpton, Wells MN.  Heat races were won by Rick Heenan, Fairmont MN, Dan Strandberg, and Dustin Larson.

This Weekend is the biggest race of the 2008 season at the Jackson Speedway; the 30th Annual Kemna-Asa Auto Plaza Jackson Nationals.  Thursday night the action gets underway with qualifying for the B Mods, Hobby Stocks, and IMCA Stock Cars, plus a complete program for IMCA Modifieds.  Friday Night, Svoboda Excavating sponsors the all sprint show featuring the JSTS 360 Sprints, Jackpot Junction IMCA Sprints and Midwest 305 sprints.  Saturday night, Erickson Trucks-N-Parts sponsors championship night featuring the $5,000 to win JSTS Sprint car championship along with a complete program for the Double Barrel Sprints, and championship races for the B Mods, Stocks, and Hobby Stocks.  For complete details log onto www.jacksonspeedway.com.
