Jackson Minnesota (August 22, 2009) The final night of the 31st Annual Jackson Nationals wrapped up Saturday night at the ASA Sanctioned Jackson Speedway with near perfect weather. Picking up the 31st annual Jackson Nationals Championships were Jake Peters, Sioux Falls SD, Jackson Speedway Touring Series U.S. Army Sprint Cars; Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, Napa of Windom 305 Sprint Cars; Jeffrey Larson, Lakefield MN, Performance Center Stock Cars; Luke Wanninger, Jefferson IA, Bohls Small Engine and Marine B Modifieds; Stac Schroeder, Clear Lake IA, Loosbrock Digging Service Hobby Stocks; and Roger Nielsen, Estherville IA, Yellowbook Hornets.
Two different drivers led in the 25-lap JSTS 360 Sprint Car feature. At the start of the race Wade Nygaard, Fargo ND, got the early lead from his pole starting position. Jake Peters would grab the second spot with Scott Winters, Butterfield MN, getting the third position. At the end of lap one the caution came out for Casey Heser, Jackson MN, who slowed through turns three and four. On the restart, Nygaard would maintain the number one spot with Winters now challenging Peters for second. On lap four, Peters would challenge Nygaard for the lead but the caution flag flew once again when Jordan Martens, Harrisburg SD, spun in turns one and two. On the restart, Peters would make his move into the lead coming out of turn two getting by Nygaard. When the field came around to complete lap six Nygaard would slip back to third when he was passed by Lee Grosz, Harwood ND. The next caution on lap six was for Nygaard when he lost his right rear tire in turns three and four. On the restart Peters would maintain his lead as Lee Grosz raced in second and Justin Henderson, Sioux Falls SD, was in third. The leaders now raced in this order for the next several laps when Lee Grosz spun in turn four on lap twenty. The restart saw Peters continue his lead as Justin Henderson now ran second and Robby Wolfgang, Sioux Falls SD, now raced in third. When the field saw the white flag it was soon replaced with the yellow flag when Casey Heser stopped in turn four. That set up a two lap dash for the win, and when the green flag dropped it was Jake Peters holding off the field and going on to pick up his third Jackson Nationals win. Justin Henderson was second followed by Robby Wolfgang, Eric Lutz, Sioux Falls SD, and Brian Brown, Grain Valley MO. The pole dash was won by Wade Nygaard with B Feature going to Gregg Bakker. The heat races were won by Eric Lutz, Austin Wheatley, Lake Stevens WA, Casey Heser, and Curt Lund, Redwood Falls MN.
After eight yellow flags and expired time limit the scheduled 25-lap Stock Car feature ended under the yellow flag and the race was cut to 21-laps. At the drop of the green it was Ken Tietz, Belle Plaine MN, getting the early lead with Jeffrey Larson getting the second spot and Kevin Opheim, Mason City IA, getting the third spot. On lap four Opheim got around Larson for second. On lap five the first caution came out when Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, stopped for a flat right front tire. On the restart, Opheim was able to move around Tietz for the lead, and on the next lap Larson moved back into second getting around Tietz. Opheim would lead the next three laps with Larson in second. On lap ten Jeffrey Larson moved into the number one spot. Larson would now have to work at holding off the field through the next seven restarts which saw the yellow flag fly every one to two laps. As the race began to enter its closing laps Mike Jergens, Mallard IA, would move into the second spot getting around Opheim. When the race was finally called, Jeffrey Larson was the winner; he was followed by Mike Jergens, Kevin Opheim, Jake Masters, Graettinger IA, and Jeff Joldersma, McCallen IA. The B Feature was won by Heath Tenkley, Hartley IA.
Two different drivers led in the 20-lap 305 Sprint car feature that saw one caution flag. At the start it was Brad Ryun, Higginsville MO, getting the early lead with Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, getting the second spot and Austin Johnson, Minneapolis MN, getting the third spot. The leaders raced in this order for the first twelve laps of the race, when Casey Friedrichsen, made his move into the lead coming out of turn two. The next lap Johnson would also get by Ryun who began to fall back in the field. On lap fifteen the caution came out for Ryun who spun when he got too far off the back straightaway. On the restart, Friedrichsen maintained his lead and went on to pick the win. He was followed by Austin Johnson, Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, Mike Blomstrom, Ft. Dodge IA, and Jeff Metli, Mason City IA.
The 15-lap B Mod feature saw Luke Wanninger lead the event start to finish. At the start of the race several cars got together in turns three and four resulting in the races first caution. On the complete restart, Wanninger got the early lead with Steve Bents, Rushmore MN, getting the second spot and Brett Meyer, Lytton IA, getting the third spot. The next caution came at the end of lap one when Justin Schuder, Fairmont MN, stopped at the entrance to the work area. Once he was removed the race resumed and Wanninger maintained the lead with Tad Reutzel, Burt IA, now in the second spot and Dan Paplow, Dundee MN, in third. On lap four, Reutzel would challenge Wanninger for the lead but he was able to keep him behind. Wanninger continued to lead the event with Reutzel in second and now Brett Meyer in third. On lap eleven the caution flag came out when Danny Mryvold, Heron Lake MN, spun in turns one and two and collected Wanninger in the mishap. Wanninger however would get the lead back, since he did not cause the yellow. On the restart, Luke Wanninger maintained the lead and went on to pick up the win. He was followed by Tad Reutzel, Brett Meyer, Austin Lucas, Story City IA, and Dan Paplow. The B Feature was won by Dan Ahlers, Slayton MN.
The 15-lap Hobby Stock feature race saw Stac Schroeder lead the entire race. At the start of the race the caution flag was thrown when Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, spun in turn two. On the complete restart, Schroeder would get the early lead as Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, raced in second and Andy Beckman, Wall Lake IA, was third. The leaders raced in this order for the first four laps when the next caution came out for Ernie Dailey who spun in turns three and four. On the restart, Schroeder maintained his lead with Larson in second and Beckman third. On lap ten Beckman would challenge Larson for second and was finally able to get around him on the next lap. On thirteen the last caution flag flew when Ryan Moberg, Worthington MN, stopped in turns three and four. That set up a two lap dash which saw Stac Schroeder go on and take the win. He was followed by Andy Beckman, Dustin Larson, Justin Luinenberg, Reading MN, and Jason Okabena MN. The B feature was won by Chad Krug, Mallard IA.
The 10-lap Hornet feature saw a two drivers go back and forth early in the event. At the start, Roger Nielsen would get early lead, but on the next lap Nate Coopman, Mankato MN, got the lead coming out of turn two. Lap three, Nielsen would get the lead back for good. Coopman would stay on his tail, but could not make a pass. Roger Nielsen would take the win followed by Nate Coopman, Bentley Glaser, Armstrong IA, Amanda Kaltved, Estherville IA, and Dean Nething, Morgan MN.
