Jackson Minnesota (June 13, 2009) – The ASA sanctioned Jackson Speedway honored a racing legend this past Saturday night, Loren Woodke of Lakefield MN.  The event was celebrated with free admission for Lakefield, Minnesota residents courtesy of the events sponsors Kozy Heat and Emerald Valley Golf Club both of Lakefield.

With over two plus inches of rain in recent days in Jackson, the track was a bit on the rough side but saw some fast racing action.  Picking up the nights feature race wins were Jake Peters, Sioux Falls SD, U.S. Army Sprints; Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, Napa of Windom 305 Sprints; Ken Tietz, Belle Plaine MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; Oliver Kollofski, Fairmont MN, Bohl’s Small Engine and Marine Repair B Modifieds; Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, Loosbrock Digging Service Hobby Stocks; and Nate Coopman, Mankato MN, Yellow Book Hornets.

It was all Jake Peters in the 20-lap 360 Sprint car feature race.  At the start of the race the red flag would fly when Danny Heskin, St. Michael MN, got high in turns three and four, collected the wall and went end over end several times.  Heskin was ok but the car was severally damaged.  On the restart it was Peters getting the early lead from his outside row one starting position.  Lee Grosz, Harwood ND, would get the second spot with Joe Riedel, Ramona SD, getting the third position.  At the end of lap two the caution came out when Johnn Cressman, Hartford SD, came to a stop off of turn two.  On the restart, Wade Nygaard, Fargo ND, would have problems and would also go off of turn two.  On the restart, Peters maintained the lead with Grosz in second and Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, now in the third spot.  The yellow came out again on lap six for Cressman who again went off of turn two, and anther caution on lap eight would be the final caution of the race when Jason Eckard, Okoboji IA, went off turn two after hitting a retaining tire on the bottom of the speedway.  Jake Peters would maintain the number one spot, with Grosz in second, but coming up through the field was Scott Winters.  Winters started in the 20th position and was up to third by lap eight.  As the race now remained under green, Peters would build up a comfortable lead over Grosz and Winters.  Jake Peters led the remaining laps and went on to take the win.  He was followed by Lee Grosz, Scott Winters, Jesse Drost, Rushmore MN, and Gregg Bakker, Sioux Falls SD.  Heat race winners were Lee Grosz, Jake Peters, and Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA.  Winning the Monson Trucking Hard Charger award was Scott Winters who advanced seventeen positions.

The 15-lap 305 Sprint Car feature race was stopped at the two-thirds mark with a nasty wreck in turn one.  At the drop of the green it was Casey Friedrichsen getting the early race lead with Russell Wiese, Lake Park IA, getting the second spot and Mike Blomstrom, Ft. Dodge IA, getting third position.  On lap two Ryan Voss, Okoboji IA, got around Blomstrom for third.  With Friedrichsen up front, Wiese in second and Voss third the leaders raced in this order until the races nasty looking wreck in turn one.  Brad Anderson, Marathon IA, and Curt Thurmer, Jackson MN, made contact and both cars went flipping wildly in the air.  Both drivers were ok, but their cars were heavily damaged.  On the restart, Friedrichsen kept the field behind him and went on to take the win.  He was followed by Ryan Voss, Russell Wiese, Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, and Mike Blomstrom.  Heat races were won by Casey Friedrichsen and Ryan Voss.

The fifteen lap Stock Car feature race saw Ken Tietz lead the entire race, start to finish.  At the drop of the green flag it was Tietz getting the lead with Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, getting the second spot and Jerry Coopman, Mankato MN, getting the third position.  On lap two Coopman would get around Schroeder and take the second spot.  The leaders now ran with Tietz up front followed by Coopman and Schroeder.  On lap ten the caution came out when Brice Bodle, Wallingford IA, spun coming out of turn two after contact with Jeffrey Larson, Lakefield MN. Both cars were sent to the rear of the field for the restart as a result.  The next caution came out on lap eleven when Bodle got into Larson.  Bodle was then disqualified and sent to the pit area.  On the restart, Tietz would maintain his number one spot with Coopman in second and Schroeder third.  The races last caution came out on lap thirteen when Coopman came to a stop in turn two.  He came to the work area for a new tire and returned the race.  On the restart, Tietz held the field off and went on to take win.  He was followed by Trent Schroeder, Jeff McCallum, Mankato MN, Dan Thate, Fairmont MN, and Luke Sathoff, Jackson MN.  Heat races were won by Trent Schroeder and Jerry Coopman.

A contested battle for the lead resulted in one car upside down in the 12-lap B Modified feature event.  At the start Dan Alhers, Slayton MN, got the lead from his outside row two starting spot.  Oliver Kollofski, Fairmont MN, would get the second spot with Nick Deiter, Brewster MN, getting the third spot.  The leaders raced in this order for the first five laps when Josh Ruby, Lakota IA, was able to get by Deiter for the third spot.  While the field was working on the ninth lap several of the leaders would make contact in turns three and four, and Dan Paplow, Dundee MN, who was running in the fourth spot would get upside down.  Several of the other top running cars would also receive some damage.  This mishap did give the restart lead to Oliver Kollofski who would lead the races remaining laps and go on to take the win.  Matthew Looft, Swea City IA, would take second followed Devin Spoo, Estherville IA, Brodie McKeown, Heron Lake MN, and Dan Alhers.  Heat races were won by Josh Ruby and Dan Alhers.

Two different leaders led in the 12-lap Hobby Stock feature race.  At the start several cars would get together on the back straightaway, and once the mess was sorted out, the race was restarted.  On the complete restart, it was John Briggs, Calumet IA, getting the early lead with Chad Carlson Ormsby MN, getting the second spot with Ernie Dailey, Worthington MN getting the third spot.  On lap four Dailey would get by Carlson for second as he fell back in the field. On lap four the caution came out for debris.  On the restart, Briggs held the field off but only for a lap as Dan Strandberg made his move into the number one spot coming out of turn two.  The races last caution came on lap seven for more debris.  When the green flag was waved for the last time Strandberg held off the field and went on to take the feature event win.  He was followed by John Briggs, Ernie Dailey, Justin Nehring, Storm Lake IA, and Chad Krug, Mallard IA.  Heat race winners were Colton Knudson, Westbrook MN, Brandon Bosma, Round Lake MN, and Dan Strandberg.

The six lap Hornet feature race was won by Nate Coopman.  It was Coopman’s third win in row and the only driver to pick up a win in the hornet class this year at Jackson.  Second place went to Jake Schroeder, Lakefield MN, followed by Jason Baune, Slayton MN, Joshua Egesdal, Storm Lake IA, and Tyler Manning, Graettinger IA.  The heat race was won by Jason Baune.

This Saturday night it will be Emmet County Iowa race night at the Jackson Speedway.  All residents of Emmet County get free admission to the Jackson Speedway courtesy of Houseman Oil and The Performance Center.  Plus all kids 12 and under get in free.  All six classes will be in action with hot laps at 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow.
