Jackson, Minnesota (June 20, 2009) – It was a near perfect night for racing action this past Saturday at the ASA Sanctioned Jackson Speedway for Riverside Sinclair/Houseman Oil and The Performance Center, both of Estherville, race night. A good field of cars checked in for the nights racing and picking up the feature wins were Nate Eakin, Milford IA, US Army 360 Sprints; Ryan Voss, Okoboji IA, Napa of Windom 305 Sprints; Jake Masters, Graettinger IA, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; Greg Sidles, Emmetsburg IA, Bohl’s Small Engine and Marine Repair B Modifieds; Jason Andrews, Okabena MN, Loosbrock Digging Services Hobby Stocks; and Amanda Kaltved, Estherville IA, Yellow Book Hornets.
Two different drivers led in the 20 lap 360 Sprint car feature race. At the start it was Bill Boles, Harris IA, getting the early lead from this pole starting position. Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA, would get the second spot with Nate Eakin getting the third position. The leaders raced in this order for the races first two laps when the caution came out for Greg Valentine, Spirit Lake IA, who spun in turn two and Shawn Van Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA, who spun in turn three getting into the wall. On the restart, Boles maintained his lead as Toews ran second and Eakin third. Three laps later the yellow came out again for Valentine, who spun this time in turn four. The restart again saw Boles maintain his lead with Toews second and Eakin third. The leaders would now race in this order until lap ten would Eakin would make his move around Toews and move into the second spot. Eakin would then set his sights on the leader and in four laps was able to make his move into the lead coming out of turn four. The caution came out quickly following the change for the lead, as Boles would make contact with Eakin, causing him to spin in the front straightaway coming out of turn four. On the restart Eakin was able to keep the field behind him as he held off second place running Chad Meyer and Mark Toews. The next yellow came one lap later when Jason Eckard, Okoboji IA, came to a stop on the bottom of turns three and four. That set up a five lap dash for the win, and when the green flag came out Eakin was able to keep the field behind him. He would pull away from the field and go on to take his first ever 360 Sprint car feature race event win. Chad Meyer was second followed by Mark Toews, Jody Rosenboom, Rock Rapids IA, and Jesse Drost, Rushmore MN. Heat race wins went to Chad Meyer, Mark Toews, and Bill Boles.
The 10-lap 305 Sprint car feature race was went green-white checkered and it was led start to finish by Ryan Voss who easily picked up the win. Frank Phipps, Everly IA was second followed by Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, Dan Jorgenson, Ringsted IA, and Troy Gochanour, Armstrong IA. Ryan Voss also picked up the heat race win.
Four different drivers led in the race shortened IMCA Stock Car feature race. At the drop of the green several cars came together in turns three and four forcing a complete restart. On the complete restart, Gary Mattison, Lamberton MN, got the early lead from his inside pole starting position. He would lead the first two laps with Roger Verdoorn, Sibley IA, and Derek Voehl, Lakefield MN, in close pursuit. The races next caution came on lap two when several cars again got together in turns one and two. On the restart, Roger Verdoorn was able to get into the lead as Mattison would fall back in the field. Another incident on lap six involving multiple cars slowed the action, but once racing resumed the battle for the lead was fierce. Trent Schroeder would be credited with leading laps seven but Jake Masters and Roger Verdoorn were right there. On lap eight, Master led the lap as Schroeder was in second and Verdoorn now back to third. When the field came around again for lap nine Schroeder would be the leader. Schroeder would lead the next several laps with the field right on his tail. On lap eleven the races last caution came out when Jeffrey Larson and Gary Mattison made contact on the front straightaway causing Larson to spin into turn one. Both Larson and Mattison were sent to the back for the restart, and the field was told, it would be a two lap finish as the time limit expired. On the restart, Schroeder would hold off Masters but, Masters would not give up and as the field worked their way out of turn four, it was Jake Masters picking up the win by a half car length over Trent Schroeder. Luke Sathoff, Jackson MN, was third with Roger Verdoorn, fourth and Brice Bodle, Wallingford IA, fifth. Heat races were won by Jeffrey Larson and Jerry Coopman, Mankato MN.
Two different drivers led in the 12-lap B Modified feature race. At the start, the caution flag was thrown when Justin Schuder, Fairmont MN, and Dan Ahlers, Slayton MN, made contact in turn one bringing out the races first caution. On the complete restart it was Kyle Steuber, Fairmont MN, getting the early lead with Brodie McKeown, Heron Lake MN, getting second spot and Greg Sidles, the third position. Two laps got into the books when the next caution came out for Dan Paplow, Dundee MN, who spun in turn four. Steuber held the field off for one lap following the restart as Greg Sidles, moved into the lead coming out of turn four. Sidles would maintain the number one spot as Steuber raced in second and Dan Ahlers third. One more caution slowed the race on lap eight when Brodie McKeown and Mark Sathoff, Dolliver IA spun in turn one. Greg Sidles would then hold off the field and go on to take the win. He was followed by Dan Ahlers, Kyle Steuber, Matthew Looft, Swea City IA, and Danny Mryvold, Heron Lake MN. Heat race wins went to Greg Sidles and Nick Dieter, Brewster MN.
The original scheduled 12-lap Hobby Stock feature was cut to 9-laps when the 20 minute time limit expired. At the start, John Briggs, Calumet IA, got the early lead from his outside row one starting spot. He would have to hold the field off through two restarts early in the race but was unable to hold off Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, on lap three who made the pass for the lead coming out of turn four. The caution came out on lap three when Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, came to stop in turn one. Larson held the field off through two more restarts, but was unable to hold off Jason Andrews with two laps to go. Jason Andrews would lead the remaining two laps and go on to take the win. He was followed by John Briggs, Dustin Larson, Matt Harris, Graettinger IA, and Kurt Fothergill, Fenton IA. Heat races were won by Jason Andrews, John Briggs, and Dustin Larson.
The six lap Hornet race saw a new driver in victory lane this year. Amanda Kaltved would lead the entire race start to finish holding off Nate Coopman, Mankato MN, coming down the front straightaway. She would take the win, followed by Nate Coopman, Jason Baune, Slayton MN, Jake Schroeder, Lakefield MN, and Megan Lappegard, Estherville IA. Amanda Kaltved also was the heat race winner.
Racing action continues this Saturday night at the Jackson Speedway with racing action sponsored by Forbes Meats of Spirit Lake and Harris IA . The first 1,500 fan into the grandstands will also enjoy a Forbes Meats Jumbo Hot Dog. All six classes will be in competition with hot laps at 6:45 and racing to follow.
