Fireworks Abound At Jackson Speedway for July 3, 2010 - Jackson Sports and Bohl's Small Engine and Marine Night

The July 4th holiday brought about fireworks on the track and in the air on Saturday, July 3 at the Jackson Speedway. A huge display of fireworks following the conclusion of the night’s features ushered in the Independence Day holiday weekend.

The fireworks were also found on the track as well during the evening, with plenty of action in each of the classes on Bohl’s Small Engine and Marine Night and Jackson Sports Night at the Speedway.

In the Jackson Speedway Hornets, Nate Coopman of Mankato continued his dominance of the class, winning the feature event after placing third in the heat race. For the Car Toyz of Marshall Hobby Stocks, Dustin Larson of Rushmore, MN, would claim another win on the season as he bested the highly competitive field in the feature to capture the double checkers.

The Bohls Small Engine and Marine IMCA Sport Mod action saw the 9L of Matthew Looft of Swea City, IA, escape an opening lap incident to work through the pack for a sweet victory and in the Performance Center IMCA Stock Car class, a spirited battle for the first quarter of the feature would turn into a feature win for Jake Masters of Graettinger, IA.

In the KICD 305 Sprint class, Russell Wiese of Spencer, IA, would make a daring pass in the late stages of the race to earn his checkers and trip to the Erickson Truck Parts Victory Lane, while in the Forbes Meats 360 Championship Sprint class, the 1WX of Chad Meyer of Harrisburg, SD, survived some great challenges from hometown hot shoe Casey Heser, and then outlasted three restarts, ala` NASCAR, to get the feature win. Unfortunately for Jesse Drost of Rushmore, MN, the Hot Dog of the Night back row challenge didn’t pay out the $1,000 bonus, as Drost crashed on the opening lap of the 20 lap feature.

Next Saturday Night will be the first Doug Cellan Memorial Night, featuring and additional $2,000 in the purse for the Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars. Doug was a long-time employee at the Speedway during the 1980’s and 1990’s and a great supporter of racing in the area.
