The 34th Annual University of Okoboji Night at Jackson
Speedway on June 11 welcomed a field of 87 cars turning
out to run for extra money in the purses in the evening's
races.
Saturday's races were also the first event of the 2011
Jackson Speedway Touring Series for winged Sprint cars. A
total of 14 305 sprints and 19 360 sprints turned out out
to compete for the JSTS/University of Okoboji $1,400 first
place check.
There were thrills and spills as well as a three-car
pileup in turn three knocked out the cars of Troy
Schmidtke, Alan Gilbertson and Bruce Anderson on the sixth
lap of the JSTS 360 feature race, but all drivers climbed
out of the cars uninjured. A red flag stopped the KICD 305
feature on the fourth lap when Travis Lain tipped over
coming out of the fourth turn. Lain was also uninjured in
the spill.
The racing action on Saturday, June 18, will feature the
second SMARTS challenge race between Redwood Speedway and
Jackson Speedway in the 360 sprint class.
Then on a special Friday night race on June 24, Big Game
Tree Stands will sponsor an evening of 410 Sprint car
racing, with the 305 as the support class for the evening.
A great field of drivers is anticipated, including the
legendary Sammy Swindell in the Big Game Tree Stands #1
sprint car.
