Nygaard, Blomstrom, Schroeder, and Larson win at Jackson

Jackson Minnesota (May 17, 2008) – The 2008 points racing season opened up on the windy side as winds started out the evening approaching 50 mph, but as the sun set the winds calmed and the racing action was hot.  Picking up the nights feature race wins were Wade Nygaard, Fargo ND, 360 Outlaw Sprints; Mike Blomstrom, Ft. Dodge IA, Double Barrel Sprints; Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, IMCA Stock Cars; and Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, Hobby Stocks.

Two different drivers led in the 20-lap 360 Outlaw Sprint car feature race.  At the start of the race the caution came out when Shawn Van Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA spun in turn two, however that caution was quickly replaced with the red when Jason Eckard, Okoboji IA, got too high in turns three and four, hit the wall and rolled.  Eckard was ok. On the complete restart it was Bill Boles, Harris IA, getting the early lead from his inside pole starting position. Brett Geldner, St. Peter MN, grabbed the second spot with Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA the third spot.  Boles would maintain the top spot for several laps as Geldner held off Toews.  On lap ten the caution came out when Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, spun in turn one.  On the restart, fourth place running Wade Nygaard was able to get by Toews and Geldner and move into the second spot.  Only one lap would get in when Russell Wiese, Lake Park IA, spun in turn four.  Boles would only hold Nygaard off for a lap as Nygaard moved into the lead going into turn three while working on lap thirteen.  That was the last Boles would see of Nygaard as he pulled away from the field and went on to pick up the feature race win.  He was followed by Bill Boles, Mark Toews, Brett Geldner, and Chad Meyer, Sioux Falls SD.  Heat races were won by Brett Geldner, Chad Meyer, and Mark Toews.

Three drivers led in the 15-lap Double Barrel Sprint Car feature race.  At the start, Jake Nicosen, Ringsted IA, was able to get the lead from his pole starting spot.  Nicosens lead was short lived as Steve Yarns, Jackson MN, was able to get by him in turns three and four for the lead.  At the end of lap two the caution came out when Scott Knudson, Elkton SD, spun in turn four and several other cars made contact with him.  Knudson was done for the night and on the restart Yarns was able to keep the field behind him, but Mike Blomstrom, who was running in the second spot was challenging Yarns hard for the lead.  On lap four the caution came out when Devin Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, and Brandon Stevenson, Holstein IA, made contact in turn two.  Friedrichsen came to the work area for repairs while Stevenson was done for the night.  On the restart Yarns would again hold the field off but Blomstrom would challenge hard for the lead.  Only one more lap went in the books when Nate Eakin, Milford IA spun in turn two.  The last restart of the race was all Blomstrom needed as he was able to get by Yarns and move into the number one spot.  Blomstrom would pull away from Yarns, lead the remaining laps caution free and go on to pick up his second feature in a row at Jackson Speedway.  Steve Yarns took second followed by Casey Friedrichsen, Frank Phipps, Everly IA, and Jake Nicosen.  Heat races were won by Jake Nicosen and Steve Yarns.

The 15-lap IMCA Stock Car feature went green-white-checkered and saw two drivers put on a great battle all race long for the lead.  At the start it was Trent Schroeder getting the early lead from his outside row one starting spot, as Roger Tripp, Marathon IA, raced in the second position.  On laps three and four Tripp and Schroeder raced side by side for the lead and on lap five Tripp was able to get the lead from Schroeder coming out of turn four.  With Schroeder still on his Tripp’s tail, he was able to get past Tripp and get the lead back coming out of turn four on lap eight.  Schroeder would maintain the number one spot with Tripp on his tail all the way to the checkered flag.  Trent Schroeder picked up the win followed by Roger Tripp, Brice Bodle, Wallingford IA, Luke Saathoff, Jackson MN, and Roger Verdoorn, Sibley IA.  Heat races were won by Trent Schroeder and Luke Saathoff.

The 12-lap Hobby Stock feature race was handed to race winner Dustin Larson.  At the start it was John Briggs, Calumet IA, getting the early lead as Dustin Larson grabbed second and Chad Carlson, Ormsby MN the third spot.  At the end of lap one the caution came out when several cars got together in turn four.  On the restart Briggs held the field off only to see the caution come out on the next lap when Ernie Dailey, Worthington MN, spun in turn four and came in contact with several other cars.  Again on the restart Briggs would keep Larson and the field behind and begin to pull away from the field.  The close battle on the track was for third as Chad Carlson, Adam Ecker, Comfrey MN, and Tim Rupp, Cherokee IA, raced side by side.  On lap eight Briggs would spin his car in turn four.  That allowed the entire field to go by before Briggs got back underway.  Dustin Larson would lead the remaining laps and go on to pick up the win unchallenged.  Adam Ecker took second followed by Tim Rupp, Chad Carlson, and Dan Strandberg, Worthington.  Heat races went to Chad Carlson and Dustin Larson.
