Jackson Wins

Jackson Minnesota (May 24, 2008) – On yet another very windy night the racing action was fast and furious as another great field of cars pulled in the pits for Riverside Sinclair/Houseman Oil of Estherville IA, race night. Picking up the nights feature race wins were Curt Lund, Redwood Falls MN, 360 Outlaw Sprints; Nate Eakin, Milford IA, Double Barrel Sprints; Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, IMCA Stock Cars; and Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, Hobby Stocks.
Only one caution flag flew in the 20-lap 360 Outlaw Sprint Car feature race. At the start it was Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, getting the early lead from his outside row one starting position. Pole sitter Curt Lund would grab the second spot with Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA, the third position. The leaders would race in this order for the first half of the race as the battle on the speedway was for fourth between Wade Nygaard, Fargo ND, and Brett Geldner, St. Peter MN. They would battle back and forth but coming up through the field after starting twelfth was Scott Winters, Butterfield MN. Winters would move into the fourth spot on lap nine and continue to move forward in the field. The battle for the number one spot heated up on the eleventh lap when Curt Lund and Mark Toews were able to get by race leader Gordy Vogelaar, coming out of two. Scott Winters also got by Vogelaar when the lap was completed. Race leader Curt Lund maintained his lead while Toews ran second and Winters third. On lap fifteen Winters got by Toews for second and then set his sights on the leader. While working on lap nineteen Winters would make slight contact with Lund and spin in turn two. Mark Toews having no place to go made contact with Winters. Under the caution Toews was able to make repairs to his car but Winters needed the wrecker to take his car to the pits. That set up a two lap dash and it was Curt Lund holding off the field and going on to pick up the win. Gordy Vogelaar was second followed by Wade Nygaard, Chad Meyer, Sioux Falls SD, and Jesse Drost, Worthington MN. Heat races went to Shawn Van Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA, Jason Eckard, Okoboji IA, and Mark Toews. Winning the Lev Wings Hard Charger Award was Jake Leighty, Worthington MN, advancing nine positions.
Two different drivers led in the green-white-checkered Double Barrel Sprint Car feature race. At the start it was Jake Nicosen, Ringsted IA, getting the early lead from his outside row one starting spot. Nate Eakin would grab the second spot with Mark Hodgins the third position. The leaders raced in this order for the first six laps when Eakin was able to get by Nicosen for the lead. On lap ten Hodgins would move up the running order as he got by Nicosen for the second spot. Two laps latter Steve Yarns, Jackson MN, made it stick in turns three and four and was able to get by Nicosen to move into the third spot. Eakin would go on and lead the rest of the race unchallenged to pick up the win. Mark Hodgins was second followed by Steve Yarns, Frank Phipps, Everly IA, and Mike Blomstrom, Ft. Dodge IA. The heat race win went to Steve Yarns.
The 15-lap Performance Center IMCA Stock Car feature race went green-white-checkered and was led start to finish by Jeff Senne. At the drop of the green Senne was able to get the lead from his outside row one starting spot. Gary Bannister, Lakefield MN, would get the second spot with Luke Saathoff, Jackson MN the third spot. On lap four, Jesse Baer, Minnesota Lake MN, challenged Saathoff for third and on lap five was able to get by Saathoff and Bannister to move into the second spot. With Senne pulling away from the field, Baer raced in second with Trent Schroeder getting by Bannister and racing the third spot. As the race began to wind down it was Jeff Senne continuing to pull away from the field, and going on to pick up the feature win. Jesse Baer took second followed by Trent Schroeder, Luke Saathoff, and Justin Luinenberg, Reading MN. Heat races went to Gary Bannister and Jeff Senne.
A bad first start brought back the 12-lap Hobby Stock feature race for a complete restart but once underway it was caution free. At the start John Briggs, Calumet IA, got the early lead with Dan Strandberg the second position. The two would race hard for the lead and on lap three they would race side by side for the lead. On lap five Strandberg was finally able to make the pass and move into the number one spot. Strandberg would then set it on cruise control and pull away from the field. Strandberg would go on to pick up the win as John Briggs took second followed by Dan Thate, Fairmont MN, Shane Klaassen, Little Rock IA, and Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN. Heat races went to Dan Strandberg and John Briggs.
Next Saturday night will be another regular night of racing action sponsored by Napa of Windom and Rectory Bed and Breakfast of Belle Plaine. The 360 Outlaw Sprints along with the Double Barrel Sprints, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks will be in action. Hot laps at 7:00 p.m. with racing to follow.
