By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (July 5, 2008) -  A good field of cars and pleasant, but breezy conditions, greeted race fans for Van Wyhe Livestock Kids night sponsored by Andy’s Tree Service of Wallingford and Bridget’s Bucksnorts Brew Ha Ha and Grill of Jackson.  Picking up the nights feature race wins were Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, Andy’s Tree Service 360 Sprints; Frank Phipps, Everly IA, Double Barrel Sprints; Luke Sathoff, Jackson MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; Troy Gochanour, Armstrong IA, B Modifieds; and Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, Yellow Book Hobby Stocks.

Two different drivers led in the 20-lap 360 Sprint Car feature race.  At the start it was Casey Heser, Jackson MN, getting the early lead.  Gordy Vogelaar would grab the second spot with Shawn Van Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA, getting the third position.  The leaders raced in those positions through the first four laps when the races first caution came out for Steve Yarns, Jackson MN, who stopped in turn three.  On the restart Heser was able to keep Vogelaar and the field behind, however while the field was working on lap six Vogelaar was able to get by Heser.  Two more laps would get when the next caution flag flew for debris in turn three.  Again on the restart Vogelaar would keep the field behind him, but Heser was unable to maintain the second spot as Jody Rosenboom, Rock Rapids IA, and Bill Boles, Harris IA, were able to get by him.  The caution flag would again fly on lap nine when Brandon Geldner, St. Peter MN, and AJ Stevens, Bingham Lake MN, made contact in turn two.  One more lap would get in when another yellow came out on lap ten for Jordan Martens, Harrisburg SD, who came to a stop on the front straightaway.  That would be the races last caution flag, and on the restart it was Vogelaar keeping the field behind him.  Bill Boles would then race in the second spot as Jody Rosenboom raced in third.  At the three quarter mark of the race Jesse Drost, Rushmore MN, and Rosenboom would battle for the third spot racing side by side battling for the third spot.  When the checkered flag flew it was Gordy Vogelaar taking the win followed by Bill Boles, Jody Rosenboom, Jesse Drost, and Shawn Van Wyhe.  Heat races went to Jordan Martens, Jesse Drost, and Bill Boles.

The 15-lap Double Barrel Sprint Car feature saw two different leaders.  At the start it was Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, getting the early lead with Mike Blomstrom, Ft. Dodge IA, getting the second spot and Nate Eakin, Milford IA, getting the third position.  On lap three Frank Phipps, Everly IA, would move into the third spot getting by Eakin.  Two laps later Phipps was able to move into the second spot getting by Blomstrom.  On lap five the caution came out for Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, when he stopped on the front straightaway with a flat tire.  On the restart Friedrichsen kept the field behind him as Phipps raced in second and Blomstrom third.  As the race approached to the two thirds mark Phipps would challenge Friedrichsen but was not able to make the pass until the eleventh lap of the race coming out of turn two.  Frank Phipps would lead the remaining laps unchallenged and go on to take the win.  He was followed by Mike Blomstrom, Casey Friedrichsen, Nate Eakin, and Bruce Anderson.  The heat race was won by Bruce Anderson.

Three drivers led during the Stock Car feature race.  At the start Derek Voehl, Lakefield MN, got the early lead, but the caution soon came out as Elijah Zevenbergen, Ocheydan IA, spun on the front straightaway coming out of turn four.  On the restart, Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, was able to get by Voehl, who fell back in the field.  Luke Sathoff, would race in the second spot with Jesse Baer, Minnesota Lake MN, in the third spot.  Two laps later, Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, would get by Baer as he fell back in the field.  Jeff Senne would race up front as Sathoff would start to challenge him at the halfway point in the race.  On lap nine the caution came out when Brice Bodle, Wallingford IA, came to a stop with a flat tire.  On lap ten Sathoff and Schroeder battled for the second spot, and the next lap it was a three car race for the lead and Sathoff would have the lead.  On the next lap Schroeder would have the lead.  He only had it a short time as Sathoff got the lead back on the white flag lap.  When the checkered flag flew it was Luke Sathoff taking the win followed by Trent Schroeder, Matt Scharn, Sac City IA, Jeff Senne, and Elijah Zevenbergen.  Heat race winners were Luke Sathoff and Brice Bodle.

The 15-lap B Modified feature race saw a great battle end with the leaders in the pits.  At the start, Troy Gochanour would get the early lead,  Gochanour would lead the first five laps when the caution flag came out for Tom Brown who spun in turn two.  On the restart, Gochanour kept the field behind him as Devin Spoo, Estherville IA, raced in the second spot and Nick Dieter, Brewster MN ran third.  On lap seven Ken Odegaard, Welcome MN, moved into the third spot, and two laps later moved from the third spot to take the lead.  Odegaard, Gochanour, Dieter, and Dustin Phillip, Fairmont were all racing for the lead on the ninth lap.  The battle for the top spot remained hot for the next several laps.  On lap thirteen, Odegaard, Dieter, and Phillips all made contact going into turn one, taking Odegaard and Phillips out of the race.  Dieter was able to restart at the tail of the field.  That gave to restart lead back to early race leader Troy Gochanour, who lead the remaining two laps and went on to take the win.  Dan Paplow, Dundee MN, took second followed by Devin Spoo, Danny Myrvold, Heron Lake MN, and Justin Schuder, Fairmont MN.  Heat races went to Troy Gochanour and Eric Kinnetz.

Three drivers led in the 12-lap Hobby Stock feature race.  At the start Corey Schreiber, Jackson MN, got the early lead and led the first two laps.  Schreiber’s lead would not last long as he spun in turn four while working on lap three.  That handed the lead over to Chris Harris, Graettinger IA.  On the restart Harris was unable to keep Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, behind him, as he moved into the lead.  One lap later Dan Strandberg also got by Harris.  Larson would race up front for the next several laps as Strandberg raced in second and Harris third.  On lap nine Larson and Strandberg raced side by side for the lead, and the next lap Strandberg would get by Larson but Larson would stay right with him. As the field was given the white flag, Strandberg would begin to pull away from Larson.  Dan Strandberg would take the win followed by Dustin Larson, John Briggs, Calumet IA, Bill Woodcock, Spencer IA, and Chris Harris.  Heat races went to Dustin Larson and Dan Strandberg.

This Saturday will be another regular night of racing sponsored by Bank Midwest and Polz Lawn Care both of Jackson.  All five classes will be in action including the Andy’s Tree Service 360 Sprints, Double Barrel Sprints, Performance Center IMCA Stocks, B Mods, and Yellow Book Hobby Stocks.  Plus for the third time an attempt to have a post race concert by Uncle Fester will be held infield tailgate section.  Hot laps at 7:00 p.m. with racing to follow.
