Winters, Blomstrom, Tripp, Odegaard, and Briggs take Jackson Wins
By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (July 12, 2008) – It was a perfect night for racing action this past Saturday night with pleasant temps and mostly clears skies.  The nights feature race wins went to Scott Winters, Butterfield MN, Andy’s Tree Service 360 Sprints; Mike Blomstrom, Ft. Dodge IA, Double Barrel Sprints; Roger Tripp, Marathon IA, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars; Ken Odegaard, Welcome MN, B Modifieds; and John Briggs, Calumet IA, Hobby Stocks.

The 360 Sprint Car feature race saw two different leaders.  At the start it was Brett Geldner, St. Peter MN, and Scott Winters, racing side by side for the first lap all the way around the speedway, and at the line it was Geldner with the lead by inches.  On the next circuit around the speedway Winters would get the lead from Geldner.  The top spots saw Winters with the lead followed by Geldner, and Bill Boles, Harris IA.  The leaders raced in this order for the first six laps when the races first caution flag came out, for Russell Wiese, Lake Park IA, who spun in turn two.  On the restart, Winters would keep the field behind as Geldner ran second, but Boles would lose third to Jason Eckard, Okoboji IA.  On lap eight the caution came out again for Wiese who this time spun off the track in turn two sliding across the grass to a large dirt pile located far off of turn two.  Once again on the restart, Winters maintained the lead with Geldner in second and Eckard in third, but on lap ten Boles would get by Eckard for the third spot, as he lost a couple of positions.  The leaders raced in this order through lap fourteen when Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington MN, and Eckard got by Boles, putting him back to fifth.  The next lap saw Vogelaar get by Geldner for the second spot.  As the laps wound down Scott Winters stayed up front and was never challenged for the lead, and went on to pick up the win.  He was followed by Gordy Vogelaar, Brett Geldner, Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA, and Jason Eckard. Heat races went to Jake Leighty, Worthington MN, and Russell Wiese.

The 15-lap Double Barrel Sprint Car feature race went green-white-checkered with Mike Blomstrom leading start to finish.  At the drop of the green it was Blomstrom getting the lead from his inside row two starting spot.  Pole sitter Jake Nicosen, Ringsted IA, would grab the second spot with Nate Eakin, Milford IA, getting the third spot.  Two laps later, Frank Phipps, Everly IA, would move into the third spot and then get by Nicosen for second on lap four.  The leaders now raced with Blomstrom up front followed by Phipps, and Nicosen.  Lap nine saw Eakin challenge Nicosen for the third spot and then get by him a lap later to move into third on lap ten.  As Blomstrom continue up front unchallenged, Phipps raced in second and Eakin third.  When the checkered flag flew it was Mike Blomstrom taking the win followed by Frank Phipps, Nate Eakin, Jake Nicosen, and Mark Hodgins, Spencer IA.  The heat race win went to Frank Phipps.

Four different drivers led in the 15-lap IMCA Stock Car feature race that saw only one caution.  At the start it was Jesse Baer, Minnesota Lake MN, getting the early lead.  Roger Tripp grabbed the second spot with Justin Luinenberg, Reading the third spot.  At the end of the first lap the caution came out when Charles Clobes, Fairfax MN, spun in turn four.  On the restart Baer and Tripp would make contact in turn four, putting Baer and Tripp back several spots and handing the lead over to Justin Luinenberg.  Brice Bodle, Wallingford IA moved into the second spot now as Baer moved back up through the field to get to the third spot.  On lap five, Luinenberg would slow going down the back straightaway, giving the lead to Bodle.  Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, would now run in second, as Baer ran third.  On lap eight the battle for the third spot was hot as Roger Tripp, Luke Sathoff, Jackson MN, Baer, and Jason Mickelson, Storm Lake IA, all raced side by side for position.  As Bodle remained out front Schroeder ran second and Tripp in third.  Three laps later Tripp got by Schroeder for second, and on the next lap Tripp got by Bodle for the lead coming out of turn four.  With two laps to go Mickelson would get by Bodle for second.  When the checkered flew on a great Stock Car feature, it was Roger Tripp taking the win followed by Jason Mickelson, Trent Schroeder, Brice Bodle, and Luke Sathoff.  Heat races went to Justin Luinenberg and Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN.

The 15-lap B Modified feature race saw plenty of yellow flags thrown.  At the start it was Kyle Steuber, Fairmont MN, getting the early lead, with Ken Odegaard, Welcome MN, getting the second spot and Dan Paplow, Dundee MN, getting the third spot.  The next lap it was Odegaard getting by Steuber for the lead, and one lap later Paplow was able to get by Steuber for third.  On lap six Nick Deiter, Brewster MN, spun in turn two.  It took three attempts to get the race restarted as several cars got together twice on the restarts but once the action was back underway Odegaard maintained the number one spot, Justin Schuder, Fairmont MN, ran second.  Two more caution flags would slow the race, but when the checkered flag flew it was Ken Odegaard taking the win followed by Justin Schuder, Matthew Looft, Swea City IA, Brady Joynt, Spencer IA, and Kyle Steuber, Fairmont MN.  Heat races were won by Justin Schuder and Ken Odegaard.

Only one caution slowed the 12-lap Hobby Stock feature race that saw three different drivers lead the event.  At the start Corey Schreiber, Jackson MN, got the early lead from his pole starting spot, as Chris Harris, Graettinger IA, got the second spot.  On lap three Harris got Schreiber to get the lead coming out of turn four.  Schreiber lost several spots as John Briggs now raced in second and Ernie Dailey, Worthington MN, raced in third.  On lap six the caution came out for debris, and on the restart it was Harris holding off the field.  On lap nine, Briggs would move into the lead getting by Harris coming out of turn two.  John Briggs would lead the remaining laps and go on to take the win.  Chris Harris took second followed by Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, Ernie Dailey, and Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN.  Heat races went to Ernie Dailey and Dan Strandberg.

This Saturday night will be AGCO employee night at the Jackson Speedway with races sponsored by Sieverts, Golden Fenders, and Seasonal Spruce Ups.  All five classes will be action with hot laps at 7:00 p.m. and racing to follow.
