Winners:

Jason Johnson Adds
Another Lucas Oil ASCS Win with Jackson Nationals
Triumph!
Lonnie Wheatley, JACKSON, Minn. (August 20,
2011) – Reigning Lucas Oil ASCS presented by
K&N Filters National champion Jason Johnson
added another notch to the win column with a
$6,000 triumph in Saturday night’s 33rd
Annual Jackson Nationals presented by Brodix
Cylinder Heads championship main event.
“The Ragin’ Cajun” gunned into the lead at the
outset and led all 25 circuits atop the
high-banked, ½-mile Jackson Speedway clay oval
for his fifth ASCS National triumph of the year
aboard the Don Ott-powered Haynes/Pope
Transportation No. 41 Maxim and 53rd
of his career.
“The top is where I like to be,” the Eunice,
LA, native explained of the upper groove that
led the way to victory lane. “Beautiful
cushion, beautiful race track tonight.”
After racing into the lead ahead of pole
starter and Friday night preliminary winner
Johnny Herrera at the drop of the green flag,
Johnson kept Tim Crawley at bay at the race’s
midpoint and survived a pair of quick cautions
in the late going to secure the victory.
“I wasn’t real happy with the car after hot
laps so we tuned on it before the feature and
the car was a rocket,” Johnson explained.
While Johnson grabbed the early lead,
fourth-starter Tim Crawley battled into second
on the opening circuit and chased the leader
with Herrera, Brady Bacon and Jack Dover in tow
as the initial 19 laps ran off in non-stop
fashion.
Working the topside flawlessly, Johnson reached
the tail of the field within eight laps and
began working traffic. Crawley took advantage
aboard Mike Ward’s Lucas Oil/Boater Sports No.
88 GF1, closing in on Johnson’s tailtank at the
midway point.
Crawley kept the pressure on until the race’s
first caution flew after 19 lap for Aaron
Reutzel, who came to a stop off of turn three.
“We definitely didn’t need that yellow,” Crawley
commented. “Jason was a little quicker than us
flat-out running, in traffic we might have had a
chance.”
Another caution flew two laps later when
current Lucas Oil Sprint Car points leader Shane
Stewart stopped in turn four with race-ending
mechanical issues as did Jordan Boston in turn
two at the same time, setting up a four-lap dash
to the stripe
And, with clear sailing ahead, Johnson raced on
to the checkered flag with a comfortable
advantage over Crawley.
“We got by a few cars on the bottom, but
ultimately it was around the lip,” Crawley
explained. “We had a little too much gear in
and it was hurting us as far as mile per hour
down the straights. A second on a half-mile for
us, we’ll definitely take it.”
While Johnson and Crawley paced the field
throughout, seventh-starter Jeff Swindell was
fifth when the lap 19 caution flew and wasted
little time working the bottom side of the track
to move past Dover and Herrera into third by the
time the next caution flew two laps later.
Swindell was unable to climb any further
forward though in the final rounds, settling for
third in the Roush-Yates Ford-powered No. 28
Maxim.
“That last restart I couldn’t quite stick to
the bottom quite as good as I was prior to
that,” Swindell explained. “Before that, I
think we had the car to win it.”
Herrera brought the Wesmar-powered Mesilla
Valley Transport/Champion Oil No. 45x Maxim
across the line fourth, with Jack Dover bouncing
back from a Friday night disappointment to round
out the top five in the Shaver-powered Thorpe’s
Auto Body/Homepride Roofing No. 53 Eagle.
Brady Bacon was sixth, with Gregg Bakker, Jake
Peters, 14th-starter Gary Wright and
Seth Bergman completing the top ten.
Bakker, Jessica Zemken, Bergman and Boston won
Saturday night’s heat races, with Bryan Dobesh
and Thomas Kennedy winning the twin “B” Mains.

Annual Jackson Nationals in Jackson, MN. (Rob

Herrera Snares Lucas
Oil ASCS Win in Woodke Memorial at Jackson
Nationals!
Lonnie Wheatley, JACKSON, Minn. (August 19,
2011) – Johnny Herrera kicked off the 33rd
Annual Jackson Nationals presented by Brodix
Cylinder Heads by racing to his second Lucas Oil
ASCS presented by K&N Filters National triumph
of the season in Friday night’s 20-lap Loren
Woodke Memorial feature event.
The Albuquerque shoe took full advantage of a
second start to the race to battle into the
early lead and then paced the final 19 circuits
aboard the Wesmar-powered Mesilla Valley
Transport/Champion Oil No. 45x Maxim for his
fourth career ASCS National triumph.
With the score, Herrera locked himself into
Saturday night’s $6,000-to-win 33rd
Annual Jackson Nationals championship main event
along with Jason Johnson, Brady Bacon and Jake
Peters, who made a last corner move around Bryan
Dobesh for the fourth and final lock-in.
With Sioux Falls, South Dakota’s Dobesh and
Herrera leading the way to the green flag, it
was actually third-starter Jason Johnson
charging into the lead on the low side exiting
turn four upon what appeared to be the
completion of the first lap only to have the red
flag fly when leading Brodix Rookie of the Year
contender Aaron Reutzel flipped in turn four to
nullify the start.
“I had a plan to get to the bottom but I got
trapped on the outside the first time and Jason
about had both of us,” Herrera explained
afterward. The veteran shoe wouldn’t make the
same mistake twice. “The next time I turned
that guy loose and let him go and got to the
bottom and never got off it again.”
Which is precisely how he did it, ducking to
the low side of the track in turns one and two
behind Dobesh and then battling into the lead in
turns three and four when Dobesh ran the middle
of the track on the second lap.
From that point on, Herrera was untouchable in
the Lucas Oil ASCS National debut atop the
high-banked, ½-mile Jackson Speedway dirt oval.
Herrera gradually slipped away from the field,
holding a half straightaway lead over second row
starters Brady Bacon and Johnson, who both
worked by Dobesh in the initial five rounds, by
the time he reached traffic at the midway point.
“When I got to lapped traffic there, I just
started pacing myself and trying to keep
straight and save the tire,” Herrera explained.
Herrera maintained his advantage and then found
clear track when a final caution flew for Bill
Boles with just four laps remaining. “After
that restart I had clean track, I ran pretty
hard then just to try to stretch it out.”
Herrera breezed to the checkered flag without
challenge, while reigning Lucas Oil Sprint Car
champion Johnson slipped past Bacon on the 18th
round to snare runner-up honors in the Don Ott-powered
Haynes/Pope Transportation No. 41 Maxim.
Bacon settled for the show position in the
Wesmar-powered Fatheadz Eyewear No. 99 Triple-X,
while sixth-starter Jake Peters dove underneath
Dobesh in the final pair of corners to snare
fourth in his No. 57x entry.
Dobesh rounded out the top five just ahead of
current Lucas Oil Sprint Car points leader Shane
Stewart, with Jeff Swindell, Tony Bruce, Jr.,
Gary Wright and Gregg Bakker completing the top
ten.
Dobesh, Herrera, Swindell, Bacon and Johnson
topped heat race action for Friday night’s
40-car field, with Lou Kennedy, Jr., and Tim
Crawley winning the twin “B” Mains.
Zach Chappell tagged the turn four wall while
pursuing a transfer position in the first “B”
Main. Jessica Zemken and Jason Eckard tangled
while battling for the lead in the second “B”
Main, with Zemken returning to action as Eckard
went pitside. Skylar Prochaska flipped in turn
four in the second “B” Main as well.
Scott Winters held down the fifth position in
the “A” Main until pulling pitside during the
lap 16 caution for Boles.
The 33rd Annual Jackson Nationals
presented by Brodix concludes Saturday night at
Jackson Speedway, with racing action set to go
green at 7:30 p.m.

On the 305 Sprints Line-ups - we will
use the ASCS Passing Point system for the 305
Line-ups. We will be locking the top 3
Finishers from Friday Nights A Feature and the Top 3
Point Earners from Saturdays Heat Races into a 6 Car
Redraw for the 1st 3 Rows of Saturday Nights A
Feature. (So the Top three Finishers from
Friday night will not have to run Saturday nights
Heat Races) Everyone else will re-qualify on
Saturday and no points will carry forward from
Friday to Saturday.
This years Jackson Sprint Car
Nationals count for 305 Track Points and for JSTS
Points, but not for the 360 Track Points.

The 143rd edition of the Jackson
County Fair hosted the traditional Saturday night
of racing at the historic
Jackson Speedway for the six classes of cars. The
evening's races were part of Hall of Fame Night at
the
speedway, and were co-sponsored by Tri-County
Implement and Bank Midwest of Jackson. A field of
73 cars turned out to compete in the fair racing
event.
Feature winners were Aaron Betz in the Yellowbook
IMCA Sport Compacts, Drew Bargloff in the IMCA Hobby
Stocks, Kyle Steuber in the Bohls Small Engine and
Marine Sport Modifieds, Bill Boles in the KICD 305
Sprints, Jim Larson in the Car Toys of Marshall IMCA
Stock Cars and Lou Kennedy Jr., earned the win in
the Forbes Meats 360 Sprint feature.
The Speedway will be silent next Saturday, August
13, as racing action takes a night off for the
Knoxville
Nationals. Action will resume on Friday night,
August 19 for the Sprint car portion of the Jackson
Nationals,
featuring the ASCS National Touring Series on Friday
night and the championship night of sprint cars for

The 143rd edition of the Jackson
County Fair hosted racing action for Yellowbook
IMCA Sport Compacts, IMCA Hobby Stocks and Bohl's
Small Engine and Marine Sport Mods at the Jackson
Speedway Thursday night. As anadded event during the
evening's races, the perennial crowd favorite, the
"Eve of Destruction" demolition derby was also held
at the speedway at the conclusion of the racing
features.
A total of 47 cars were joined by
nine demolition derby entries to provide the racing
action for the evening. The
added purses attracted some extra cars in the three
classes, as Marv Chandler of Vinton, Iowa would tow
up to
win the Sport Compact feature, only to be
disqualified during the post-race technical
inspection, giving the feature win to Aaron Betz. In
the Hobby Stock feature, it was Shane Klaassen of
Little Rock, Iowa earning the checkers and in the
IMCA Sport Modifieds, it was a tight race to the end
but Nick Johansen of Russell, MN would capture the
victory.
Capping off the evening was the
victory of Zach Marco in the Eve of Destruction
Demolition Derby, in which Marco also won the "Mad
Dog" or hardest hitter award for the event. Regular
racing action is in store for this Saturday night
with all six classes of cars at the Jackson Speedway
for Hall of Fame Night. Hot laps will begin at 6:30
p.m.

We have finalized the Fall
Schedule along with the Kenma Asa Stock Car
Nationals.
The Stock
Car Nationals will be run on September 30, and Oct
1st. without either Sprint Cars Class.
We will keep the two Sprint Car
Classes on September 24, as this was going to be the JSTS
Championship Night
anyway. We now are going to make this into an all
Sprint Car Race (360's and 305's) and also make it our 1st Annual Loren Barstad Memorial Race.
Loren won his first
Track Championship last year at Jackson and with
this being the JSTS Championship Night, we thought
would be a great fit.
The Flyers are in for the June
24th Big Game Treestands 410 Sprint Car Shootout!
We will be putting them up all throughout the area. I will
have a bunch at the Track this Saturday Night, if
you want to help Spread the word about this show,
you can, do so by
putting Flyers up where you work or around your
Hometown. I will also try and get them to all
the people that e-mailed me wanting some to put up as
well. Thanks! This show is really coming
together.
The 1hd Sprint Car Driven by Jason
Tostenson will be donating all of the money they get
from the $4 Vouchers that they get this Season to
the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation IA Chapter.
They will be in action this Saturday Night at
Jackson Speedway.
Also for the Doug Cellan Memorial
- June 25th We have an additional $850 Raised so
far. If you would like to donate shoot me an
e-mail. You will get your Name (and or
Business Name) on the Web-site, in the Program, and

5/19-2011 - Thanks for all those that attended Last
Nights Test and Tune. With the Weather forecast for this
weekend we will not be scheduling another test and tune. We
will see everyone for the opener a week from Saturday.
5/14/2011 - Test and tune has been moved to Wednesday
Night.
And the Make-up Date for the JSTS Race at Park
Jefferson has been set for Friday, July 29th.
And to give everyone an idea of what I am
thinking: The second test and tune, tentatively for next Saturday
(May 21st) is very tentative, and if we get Wednesday in, we may not
have it. I am going to judge the interest
(and the Possibly Timing) of a second test and tune. We may leave it
on for next Saturday, we may not have it at all, and there might be
an outside chance we do another mid-week one.
5/13/2011 As posted Above the JSTS race for tonight
at Park Jefferson has been postponed. We are working on a rain
date. The test and tune for tomorrow night is still on.
I am not too worked about it being cold, but we need to evaluate the
racing surface, we will let you know.
5/4/2011 - Update on the July 8th ASCS Race. We
are going to be looking at straight ASCS Rules, which will include
running the ASCS tire and an open left, as well as only ASCS heads.
4/26/2011 - The 4th Annual Spring Nationals will be
postponed. We are currently working on what the rain date is
going to be. We should have a date announced in the next day
or so.
4/25/2011 - Update on this weekend. Although
the forecast looks good for Friday any significant rainfall between
now and Friday will put this Fridays show in significant danger of
being postponed. With the way the weather has been we have had
very little track prep time, and the racing surface will need a full
week of work. We won't run if we don't think the track will be
ready. Watch for a lot more updates this week on the track
surface and weather related updates.
Last year I think we were darn near 100%, so let me
know if you have any additions or deletions and we can come up with
a good list......and lets hope that the rain stays away tonight and
tomorrow.
4-22-2010 The Spring Nationals Purse has been
updated, and all I can say is WOW! Over $10,000 has been added in
Cash and Contingencies. It is Now $500 to start the A,
$200 to Start the B and $50 to Start a Heat Race. Thats Right
$50 TO START the heat! I can not thank Wayne Van Wyhe and John and
Steve Folkens enough for all there work in making this show a truly
special event!
Now if we could just buy off that weatherman.....

he was regarded as perhaps the most instrumental person in
getting weekly racing action at the Jackson
Speedway. He was a long time supporter of the
Jackson Speedway.

Jackson Speedway and Redwood
Speedway add Sprint Cars to the Southwest MN Alliance of Race Tracks
(SMART).
The two tracks where already scheduled to face off in SMART Rivalry
Races on Saturday June 4th (Redwood at Jackson) and Sunday July 3rd
(Jackson at Redwood).
The 360 Sprints will be added to these two dates and since at this
time there are only Two Sprint Car Tracks in the alliance we will
add these dates: Sunday May 29th Jackson at Redwood, and Saturday
June 18th at Jackson.
Things will work a lot like they are for the other SMART divisions,
starting with the rules will be the same at both tracks.
Secondly all of the drivers will be assigned to one track or the
other. This is key, as if you are signed up on one of the tracks
rosters you will be eligible for 2 Free Pit Passes at the road games
and also will be eligible for bonus money if your team wins.
Each Sprint Car Race will pay $500 in bonus money and this will go
to the top five finishers on the winning team.
At this time we will not have playoffs or keep track of points for
the 360 Sprints with-in the SMART. However, we may look at ways that
we could schedule some fun nights of competition against each other
later in the season.
At this time these Rivalry Races are separate from the JSTS.
We do have a JSTS race Scheduled at Redwood Speedway on July 7th, as
well as these confirmed dates: Friday May 13, Park Jefferson
Speedway, Wednesday July 13th at Sioux Speedway, in Sioux Center,
IA.
We are trying to add about another 2 or so JSTS dates as well.
Look for a new tire deal to be inked with Hoisser for Jackson and
Redwood Speedway within the next week also. This new deal will
involve the same tires we have been running, but will pay out a 1
tire bonus if we have 10 cars and 2 tires if we have 15 cars. We
will likely do some sort of a draw system on who wins the tires each
night.
Press Release
12-29-10
The Murray County
Raceway, Jackson Speedway and the Redwood Speedway have officially
formed our new Southwest MN Race Track Alliance (SMRTA)! This
alliance will consist of the following 4 divisions: IMCA Stock
Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts.
The Alliance was
formed to cross promote our tracks to our drivers and fans.
Although we are still working on many details we had a meeting with
the Three Tracks on Monday Night and we wanted to release the
information that we know thus far.
Alliance Point System for each Race Driver:
We are going to keep track of individual race
driver points that are for the entire alliance, and have a
separate point fund for this. We are currently working on
finding an Alliance sponsor so we do not have the amount of
point fund money at this time.
Alliance Points will consist of a driver’s best 2
finishes at each track (With any additional Nights “Thrown
Out”), plus each track will have one Double Point Night. NOTE:
The Double Point Nights Counts toward each driver’s alliance
points and are not “thrown out”
So each driver’s alliance points will be
comprised of a total of 9 Races, 3 Races from each track. 3 of
these races are the Double Point Nights in August. Then the
other 6 are a driver’s best 2 other Finishes at Each track,
other than the Double Point Nights.
All races that are for regular IMCA points at
each track count toward a driver’s alliance points. The points
that are awarded for alliance points use the same points as the IMCA system.
NOTE: If we were to land a big sponsor we may
increase the amount of regular races to 3 from each track plus
the Double Point Nights, so it would be 12 races not 9.
Rivalry Races which will be Team Races and
Team Champions:
Each driver will be assigned to only one of the 3
tracks. This will basically be based on whatever track they are
the closest to, but if a driver wants to be on a different
tracks team that is fine, they just need to indicate which
tracks team they want to be on.
We will have one home and away “Race” with each
of the Alliance Tracks. NOTE: All of these alliance Races are
not separate Races, but are how each team finishes within that
Nights Regular A Main.
Each race team that is on the visiting team gets
2 Free Pit Passes.
The point system for determining the winning team
is as follows: We take each team’s top five finishing drivers,
and take their IMCA Points, and the team with the most overall
points wins. The tie breaker is the best finishing car.
These five cars that make up the winning team get bonus as
follows: Stock Cars $100 per Car, Sport Mods and Hobby Stocks
$75 Per Car and hornets $50 per Car.
So basically if you want to participate in the
Rivalry Races you have to travel only twice. You get two free
Pit Passes at these races, and there is going to be bonus money
for the winning team! Then the Playoff Races may or May not be
at your home track. The same Bonus Money will be available and
the same 2 Free Pit Passes for the two rounds of playoffs.
As of Now we don’t have additional money for the
Team Winners, just the additional amount they win at each race.

KJOE 4:30
I wanted to share a few thoughts this
Monday Morning:
Where to Start! Well I guess we had a Full moon and 5
Plus inches of Rain in the days leading up to make up feature night!
I think it took an hour to run the 1st 360 Sprint
Feature, and then just over an hour to run the next 6 features.
Great job by all of the racers.
We got done at just before 11:00, which is too late, but
with all things considered, we will live with it and move on.
Seemed like most of the nice crowd on hand stayed until the end.
Track was challenging and was probably about what
everyone was expecting.
The Hobby Stock Race....had to be one of the most
challenge races to make calls on I have been associated with in 10 years
at this. Seemed like every start was bad enough we had to think
about calling it back, and the Hobby Class (because of limited
suspensions) seem to be struggle with a rough racing surface more than
some of the other classes. So there were a lot of incidents and there
were a lot of close call and decisions to make. I made a lot of
them myself and I would guess that not everyone of them was exactly
right. But I slept good knowing there were tough calls to make and
I tried my very best to get them right. Some of them where just
hard to tell exactly what happened or who caused it. Instant
replay would be nice, especially with Slow Motion, in High Definition
and with In Car Cameras!!
Hopefully we get some good weather this week to work on
the track and I am really looking forward to this years Jackson County
Fair!!
With the Fair and Bike Sale Updates, I will be updating
the web-site a lot this week, so check back often.
Click Here for Pictures from Saturday Night
7-20-2010 Buy-Ins to the Make-up Feature
We will allow buy ins for the 3 make up Features this
Saturday Night.
The buy in amount will be $50 for Stock Cars. $75
for the 305's and $100 for the 360 Sprints. (Plus You need to
buy a pit pass and in the Sprints the $10 Draw fee for the Regular
Night).
If the Stock Cars or 305 Sprints get to 15 Cars
that start the Make-up Feature I will add $100 more to win BOTH
Features. If they get to 20 I will make it $200 more to win both
features.
Keep in mind if we don't get any additional cars in the
Stock Care or 305 Sprint classes you are on the second tier purse
because neither division had 10 cars. So guys help us encourage
some more racers to come and join us!
If the 360 Sprints if we make it to 15 Cars that start
the Make up Feature, I will add $200 more to win each Feature and if
they get to 20 Cars that Start the Make up Feature I will make it $400
More to win EACH Feature.
I know that several guys are not able to make it back and
these cars will NOT count toward the 15 or 20 Car Count Bonus, the Bonus
is based on how many cars start the Make up Feature.
Thanks and can not wait for Saturday!!

Lightning Brings Premature End To AGCO-Race Days
Weekend
By Dan Voigt - Jackson Speedway Media Relations
JACKSON – With a line of severe storms moving towards
the track and lightning closing in on the speedway, the AGCO-Race
Days Weekend program at the Jackson Speedway was called midway
through the evening’s feature events.
The KICD 305 Sprints, Performance Center IMCA Stock
Cars and Forbes Meat Processing 360 Sprint features were postponed
and will be run this coming Saturday night, July 24, Stimulus Night
and Forbes Meats night. The first 1,000 fans to the grandstand on
Saturday night will receive free Forbes Meats hotdogs with paid
admission.
A red flag highlighted the KICD 305 sprint car
feature, as Russell Wiese of Spencer, IA, jumped the rear wheel of
Dan Jorgenson of Ringsted, IA, on the start and tumbled down the
front stretch, getting some rare air before coming to rest under the
flag stand. Wiese was able to crawl out of the car under his own
power, but the car was finished for the night.
Nate Coopman of Mankato, MN, continued his domination
of the Hornet Class at Jackson Speedway with another feature win on
Saturday night. Coopman has won every Hornet Feature so far this
season at the speedway.
In the IMCA Hobby Stock Class, Dustin Larson of
Rushmore, MN, once again powered to the front of the field midway
through the Hobby Stock feature to pick up another victory on the
season in his 5L machine.
The IMCA Sport Modified Feature had a great battle as
Greg Sidles of Emmetsburg, IA, worked his way through traffic to
outlast Matthew Looft for the checkers in the final feature of the
night before lightning prompted officials to call the night’s
program out of safety concerns.

Robert “Bobby” Geldner, age 68 of Cleveland, died July 5, 2010 at St.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2010 at St.
Paul's Lutheran Church on German Lake, Cleveland, MN.

Burial will be in
St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery (The Bell Church) in Elysian.
In lieu of flowers send memorials to the Geldner Sawmill Preservation Fund at Nicollet County Bank, St. Peter, Mn.
Robert Leonard was born November 3, 1941 to Robert Michael and Dorothy
(Wiese) Geldner in St. Peter. He graduated from St. Peter High School in
1959. Bobby was united in marriage to Dianne Kral and blessed with four
children. He started his own business in 1965, which he ran until the
end of his life. Bobby raced cars for over 30 years, starting at age 17,
and was an inaugural member of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
Bobby's business and racing travels took him around the country and led
to a steady accumulation of friends and adventures. He volunteered his
time with the Le Sueur County Mounted Sheriff's Posse, the St. Peter
Volunteer Fire Department for 18 years, the National Guards for six
years, the Le Sueur County Historical Society site of Geldner's Sawmill
and was a member of the St. Peter Red Men Club. He was dedicated to the
conservation of German and Jefferson Lakes and the preservation of
family heritage. Bobby had an endless sense of humor and generous heart
that kept him surrounded by friends and family, enjoying the lakes,
fishing, driving horses, and life.
Bobby is survived by his four children: Brett (Deb) Geldner, Robyn
(Brendan Moore) Geldner, Brandon Geldner, and Ryann (Annie Annunziato)
Geldner; three grandchildren: Liam, Gaian, and Breanna; special friend,
Corky Biehn; sister, Roberta Mulvehill; niece, Kris Fultz; and two
nephews: Scott Fultz and Mark Mulvehill; and, former wife Paula Michael.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Two
other races I vividly remember were at North Star Speedway in Minnesota,
when Bob Geldner had the nerve—the nerve!—to beat me off the last
corner, not once, but TWICE! Actually, when I was growing up around
Jackson Speedway, Bob was as good as there was in our area, driving for
Loren Woodke. But the fact that he was very good didn’t put any salve on
the idea of losing two different races in the last corner. – Quote
from Doug Wolfgang in his book “Lone Wolf”, interestingly before the
Quote, Doug mentions these vivid memories of getting beat by Geldner, he
mentions that he can not remember winning Knoxville!
It also came to our attention that Nick Pronk Passed away last week as well. We apologize for not getting
this information out sooner.
Here is a link to his obituary. Nick was a long time track
employee and was inducted into the Jackson Speedway Hall of Fame in 2003.
Fireworks Abound
At Jackson Speedway
for July 3, 2010 - Jackson Sports and Bohl's Small Engine and Marine Night
By Dan Voigt
Jackson Speedway Media Relations
The July 4th holiday
brought about fireworks on the track and in the air on Saturday, July 3
at the Jackson Speedway. A huge display of fireworks following the
conclusion of the night’s features ushered in the Independence Day
holiday weekend.
The fireworks were
also found on the track as well during the evening, with plenty of
action in each of the classes on Bohl’s Small Engine and Marine Night
and Jackson Sports Night at the Speedway.
In the Jackson
Speedway Hornets, Nate Coopman of Mankato continued his dominance of the
class, winning the feature event after placing third in the heat race.
For the Car Toyz of Marshall Hobby Stocks, Dustin Larson of Rushmore,
MN, would claim another win on the season as he bested the highly
competitive field in the feature to capture the double checkers.
The Bohls
Small Engine and Marine IMCA Sport Mod action saw the 9L of Matthew
Looft of Swea City, IA, escape an opening lap incident to work through
the pack for a sweet victory and in the Performance Center IMCA Stock
Car class, a spirited battle for the first quarter of the feature would
turn into a feature win for Jake Masters of Graettinger, IA.
In the
KICD 305 Sprint class, Russell Wiese of Spencer, IA, would make a daring
pass in the late stages of the race to earn his checkers and trip to the
Erickson Truck Parts Victory Lane, while in the Forbes Meats 360
Championship Sprint class, the 1WX of Chad Meyer of Harrisburg, SD,
survived some great challenges from hometown hot shoe Casey Heser, and
then outlasted three restarts, ala` NASCAR, to get the feature win.
Unfortunately for Jesse Drost of Rushmore, MN, the Hot Dog of the Night
back row challenge didn’t pay out the $1,000 bonus, as Drost crashed on
the opening lap of the 20 lap feature.
Next
Saturday Night will be the first Doug Cellan Memorial Night, featuring
and additional $2,000 in the purse for the Performance Center IMCA Stock
Cars. Doug was a long-time employee at the Speedway during the 1980’s
and 1990’s and a great supporter of racing in the area.

Weekly Update for June 26 Races:
Race Car Show at Forbes on Friday Night
We have a Race Car Show at Forbes Meat in Spirit Lake on
Friday Night from 5-7. We would like to encourage anyone that can
bring their cars to attend.
The Hot Dog of the Night??
The Back Row Challenge for the Forbes Meats 360 Sprints
(and we are still working on a name for this) will be in place again
this week, but will have a minor stipulation. If we have under 10
cars the bonus Winning amount will be $500 and the challenger will get $15 per
position advanced.
Over 10 Cars and it will be $1.000 and $25 per
position advanced. I think we will be over 10 Cars.
The Doug Cellan Memorial will be on July 10th for IMCA
Stock Cars. The Cellan Family and the McCorkell Family are both
putting up $500 of Matching Funds. We are hoping to get enough people to
add to the purse to come up with another
$1,000, and have $2,000 added to the Stock Car Purse for the Night.
So far we have these additional Donors: Luke
Sathoff $100, Dave Doppenberg $50, Larry Loeschen $50,
Phil Handevit $50, Dan Voigt $50, Jeff Senne $50, Jerry Nutt $50, Dave
Nutt $50, Nate Peterson $50, Gayle Odegaard $50, Lon Oelke $50, Dean and
Cindy Albrecht, Paul and Wanda Jerosek $50,
Dani and Jim Kepler (Dani was Doug's Sister), Glen Mura $50, Merle and Jan Weise $25, Dennis Hein $25,
Dennis Houseman (and Cruz in Classics) $25 and Tom Svoboda $25, Ron
Childs $25, Irv Johnson $20. = $945 - or $55 to go to reach our Goal! And we would not necessarily have to
stop there. If you
would like to donate to this great race e-mail me at
j.mccorkell@mchsi.com.
We are also going to try and get as many past track employees that
worked with Doug here on this night, so help help us pass the word.

6-18-2010 We are at The state Bank of Fairmont Today and
Murray County Speedway
Tonight:

Back Row Challenge will Return!
We have had another sponsor step up (they wish to remain
anonymous) and what they want to do is to do a back row challenge for
the 360 Sprints.
This is how it is going to work:
We do our line ups by finishing and passing points, and the Back Row
Challenge will 1st be offered to the car with the most points and then
the next guy and so on until someone takes it. The farther you get back
in the field the more tempting it will be.
If the car that takes it wins the race it Pays an additional $1000. And
if they don't win they get $25 per car passed. So lets say we have 15
Cars Start and they get up to 5th they will get $250, because they
passed 10 Cars.
What I need is a good name to call this Bonus or Challenge. And it will
start this weekend. So someone could win $3,000 if someone is able to
win the race from the back. Please help me come up with a good name for
this, I think it sounds great!!

Reminder to the Race teams to Read over the Track Procedures and you
will find the Track Packing Schedule. It was suggested by the race
committee that we go back to backing by class and they also thought we
need some enforcement for those teams that do not do a minimum of 10
laps of packing. The penalty is no hot laps and start at the back
of their heat race. The Pit Meeting will be at 6:30 and if any
track packing is needed it will be immediately following the pit
meeting.
Race Committee Meeting Update:
Dominick Bruns Memorial Race Update: If we get our $500 of Purse

for Jackson Speedway rules.
We also talked about doing some sort of special in the B Mod and Hobby

Sponsorships.
Schedule Update: We have moved the
Loren Woodke Memorial Race to Friday August 20th (the Friday of the
Jackson Nationals) due to some scheduling conflicts. The Friday
June 18th race has been eliminated. Saturday June 19th will be the

There are some Soap Box Derby Races going on in Windom
for their town Festival and these will be on Next Friday June 11th.
They will also have some of these cars on display at the races this
weekend and will be available to answer any questions, etc.
Dominick Bruns Memorial: This is coming up
on 6/12/2010. The Jackson Speedway will match any purse donations
/ Sponsorships up to $500 for this event.
360 Sprint Left Rear Tire Rule: After
visiting with some of our teams, we will open up our Let Rear Tire Rule
for this weekends races on Friday and Saturday. Any tire and any
compound will be allowed for left tires. No Changes to the Right
Rear at this time. From talking to some teams it has come to our
attention that there is a surplus of RD-12, etc, that teams can buy
fairly cheap. Hopefully this helps to keep cost down and to maybe
attract a few new teams. We will be visiting with the 360 Sprint
teams this weekend about what they would like to do going forward.

Jon's Overall Take on the Night:
Good Racing, but got done too late. How big of a Stud is Brooke Tatnell?
Dead Last Starting Spot in one of the B's and finished 4th in the A ? And he
passed most off those cars. Nice job Brooke.
Friedrichsen
What Happened to the Time??:
The Break was what hurt us the most. The hard thing is getting all the
passing points calculated and then getting the guys back out there after
they just raced.
I thought the track might be a little wider if we
ran the 305 heats 1st.
I almost think we are better off having
another class of cars, and probably could have been quicker. We
also could look at an Air Horn or Something as well.
Maybe you run the
305 A right after the JSTS Heats?? But then your looking at
the JSTS Dash, JSTS B's and JSTS A.....so basically every car in that
class has to run again. I guess one thing that just dawned on me
is that a lot of the JSTS cars ran 3 races.
On the Line Ups, we already are getting set up on Speed
Net and this hopefully helps here. I dropped the ball on getting
us set up on speed-net. I am not positive it this would help, but I
think it might. We actually do have some classes set up and will be
using it for the 1st time tonight.
Its nice having another race tonight to get right back
after it...we have some room for improvement.
Tonight: I am not sure how
many past champions are going to make it out. I think we have all
from last year, and at least another 6 or so coming. We have
several kids groups coming in, including
The Red Rock Central High School Choir will be signing
the Nationals Anthem. There are a Choir of 36.
Southwest Star Concept School - this is group of kids
that participated in their Fitness Awards Program that we sponsored.
Jared Fisher headed up this program. I think they are bringing
like 50 Kids.
Round Lake Brewster School - Community Education Program
all the kids that participated in this program that we sponsored will
also be in attendance. I think they are bringing over 60 Kids.
Becky Standberg headed up this program.
This Morning: We are taking
the show car to Trimont, MN for there Annual Greenwing Teal Ducks
Unlimited Program. I guess they get over 200 kids at this event,
and I am really looking forward to attending it.
$125 Season Passes (Grandstand) are now available
These passes will be good on these Nights ($175 Value)
5/22, 5/29, 6/4, 6/5, 6/12, 6/18, 6/19, 6/26,
7/3 (Vehicle Pass), 7/10, 7/17, 7/24, 7/31, 8/7, 8/14, 9/4
5/21/2010
Its Finally Race Day!!! Things look Great. I think we
only got a trace of rain at the track.

I thought this was a neat picture we had in the
Estherville Daily News from Our Show Car Appearance on Monday.
Remember that Donny Schatz Article that I had been trying
to post on the web-site the Day Before the Outlaw race? Well I found
that they put it right on the KILR web-site. Here is a link.
http://kilrradio.com/index.php Its under
the Sports Section and you just have to click on the Right of the Link.
This Monday should be Busy as I have a couple of
Interviews Set up for local Newspaper Publications about the upcoming
season and I will also be speaking to the Jackson Kiwans about the
upcoming season. Speaking of Which the Season is Really Starting to take
shape. These are a few of the things we have been working on the
details for:
On May 22nd we were planning on Honoring last years
Champions, but I got to thinking that we should do something for all
Former Champions.
Click Here for the Page on the May 22nd Activities.
Emmet County Night has been Announced - May 29th, We are
still working on Some of the Details. Houseman Oil and Riverside Sinclair
have both stepped up and we are currently working on a couple more
Sponsors.
The thought is that at Estherville's Chuckwagon Days
(Thursday May 27th) will be a great place to promote Emmet County Free
Night, this is where they have all the Chamber members Grill Free Hot
Dogs. We will have the show car at Northstar Bank and we will also
be inviting any and all race cars from the Area to Attend as well.
This is also Military Appreciation Night.
We have added a Classic Car Drive-In Night for the Doug Cellan Memorial
Race on July 10th. This will be an event of the Black Nights Car
Club from Estherville, IA.

with the Show Car. This is a Big Hour and Half Radio Show in Sioux
Falls and it is broadcast from Borrowed Bucks in Sioux Falls. We are working on a few
ideas for this show. Keep checking back.
5-5-2010 It has been a rough couple of months. On Thursday

3/9/2010 - Updates on Miscellaneous Items
This weekend we are at the Windom
Farm and Home Show on Saturday (March 13). We again would
like some drivers to come out and sign autographs. Hero Type Cards are
great, but if you don't have any, one of the drivers from last weekend just
got some pictures of there car printed up at Hy-vee, and this worked pretty
well too.
March 20th - We are at the Jackson
Farm and Home Show (again we could use drivers at this).
March 27th - is our Season Kick off
Chili Feed. We need auction Items and Raffle Items!
All proceeds from this event go to the Racing Committee, and toward the 2010
racing Banquet \ Point Fund.
Maybe you have a connection with a business that might
donate something? Maybe you have a few left over T-shirts? or have a
connection with a World of Outlaw or NASCAR Team? We can use about anything.
The Last time we had a chili feed most of the money was made on the Auction.
We will post a lot more details on the Chili Feed in the
coming days, but the big thing we need to get started on is Auction items.
Contact Buco (507-227-8578) if you would like to attend
either of the Farm and Home Shows to sign Autographs or if you have any
Raffle or Auction Items.
3/9/2010- Jackson Speedway was a Sponsor of the Emmet
County Pheasants Forever, which had its banquet Saturday, March 6th.
All attendees got free tickets to the 2010 races at Jackson Speedway.

3-4-2010 - Drivers Wanted to Sign Autographs at the
Estherville Farm and home Show.
Show times are Friday 4pm to 8pm and Saturday 10am - 2 pm.
Call Buco at 507-227-8578 to set a time to be at our booth. Hero cards
are great, but if you don't have them we can help come up with a driver
profile for you.
3-4-2010 - This weekend we will have the Jackson Speedway
Show car in Estherville, IA at the Estherville Chambers Farm and Home Show
at the Regional Wellness Center. the Regional Wellness Center is across from
the college. Click here for a link to the Estherville Chambers
Website: http://www.estherville.org/.

Bring the Kids out to get there picture taken in the Jackson
Speedway Show Car and win some great prizes at Jackson Speedway!
3-4-2010 New Water Truck!

We are pretty excited with our new purchase. This PTO
driven spray truck will hopefully fill our needs when we want to lightly water
something.
Director of Track Preparation Jerry Nutt, added you never know
for sure until you get a chance to try something out, but from the looks of it
this looks like a great little truck to either spray the infield or the track,
especially when something needs just a light shot of water.
2/15/2010 - We are Happy to Announce that we have added a
USMTS Race Thursday, August 5th!

2/12/2010 The Race Car Show at the South Park Mall (in
Spencer, IA) has been set for April 10th and 11th. They need 12 Cars
to have it and last year they did not have 12. I know that some tracks
(including the JSTS at Park Jefferson) are scheduled to open before this
date, but hopefully we can still make this date work. Who knows,
the way this winter is going some of these early shows may not happen.
the Weekend should work our pretty well for the Jackson
Speedway, and I will have the new Show Car there and hopefully we can get
another 11 guys to commit.
What I am hoping to do is have a Jackson Speedway Driver Meet
and Greet, and maybe have a local charity grill hot dogs on the New Show Car
Grill. Watch the site for more details. Remember, Sponsors love to see
your car at things like this (and of Course the Chili Feed March 27th at the
Legion in Jackson).

2/10/2010 - The Jackson Speedway Show Car is coming together!
We hope to take it with us to the Better Home and Living Show in Spirit
Lake, IA this weekend. We will be there promoting all of the upcoming events
at Jackson Speedway in 2010.
We won't be grilling, as they limit the amount of Food
vendors, but come on out and get your (or your kids) picture taken in the
show car. Plus we have a ton of giveaways. Who knows we might
even see if Buco can still fit in the Chicken Suit.

Chili Feed is now in. It is a 1981 Jackson Nationals Program.
Click here for a few of the pages that I scanned in.
NOTE - it takes a long time to load (it
is an 8 page Adobe file, I did have it all 32 Pages! That really
took a long time) If anyone knows how to make this open faster by
somehow changing the memory or something, please let me know.
j.mccorkell@mchsi.com. Same with Pictures, they seem to take a
long time to load as well. I tried changing the memory of the ones from
the Spencer Swap Meet, but it just made the pictures worse quality and
they opened just as slow.
2/7/2010 We have updated our Track Procedures for 2010 and
clarified some wording on some rules.
Click Here for a link to our rules and
procedures link.
2/7/2010 Below are Photos from the Spencer Swap Meet this
past weekend. Thanks for Bill Lev for having the Swap Meet as a nice
crowd was on hand (despite the weather) and we had a chance to talk to a
bunch of our racers and fans.

2/3/2010 - Attention Drivers 1099's were mailed out on

1/19/2010 - Congratulations to Houseman Oil and Riverside
Sinclair for winning Estherville businesses of the year!
The Houseman family along with these two
businesses have been long supporters of the Jackson Speedway and just last
year were one of the sponsors of the FREE Emmet County Night. These
two businesses were started by Bunny Houseman back in the 40's and son's Bob
and Rick now own and operate these two businesses.
Bunny Houseman was inducted into the Jackson
Speedway Hall of Fame in 2003 and son Bobby also raced at Jackson Speedway,
picking up Track Championships in 1980 and 1983. 1983 was quite a year
for the Houseman Family as brother Denny picked up the Unlimited
Sprint Championship giving the Houseman Family a "Clean Sweep" taking both
track championships.
Here is a link to a story at the Estherville Daily News.

1/18/2010 - We have added two new pages, one for Classifieds
and one for the Go Cart Club, which may be running more Saturday Afternoons
this season.
1/16/2010 Update on the RACEceiver's and
Driver Profiles:
On the Race Receivers - we are going to be
placing a big order to try and get some better pricing. I will post more
information on this early this week (as far as pricing goes).
On The Driver Profiles: We are also starting
to gather information for our Driver Profiles. We will be posting this on
the web-site as well as inserting them in the programs this Season.
the New Drivers Section: Greg Sidles already sent his in!
What I want to end up with is a system where
you just e-mail me any updates that you want to do to your page, so we keep
all of your information as current as possible. You can send me a
bunch of pictures as well. Off Season Pictures of building a new car,
whatever.
Here is a link to the
Driver Information that we need. I can't figure out how to have it
automatically open as a Word Document, but if you copy and paste this to a
Word Document (or right to your e-mail that works also). E-mail the
Driver Profiles to Jane at
paws4you@mchsi.com.
Feel free to send them in right away, but I
am going to post the on the Web-site in the order you finished in points:

12/16/09: Restaurants Here are the preliminary Designs
for the Kids Club Shirts. More details about the Kids Club and how you
can get involved are available under the
Kids Tab on the Left. We have also updated our Sponsors Link Page, and
have added two new pages, one for area Hotels and Campgrounds and one for
area Restaurants.
12/14/09: Jackson Speedway has teamed up with Fantasy
Dirt Racing for 2010 to bring Free Fantasy Racing every
Saturday Night to Jackson
Speedway. Fans will be able to pick a team of drivers and compete against
other fans for prizes. Registration will be starting early 2010 and
for more information visit
www.fantasydirtracing.com We have also added a new Tab for the Fantasy
League on the Left Menu.
12/10/09: I updated the History Section, and added a Hall of
Fame Tab. I hope to build a lot better History Section, its got a long
way to go, but it is a Start. If you have any old photos, especially
of anyone that was either a Track Champion, Nationals Champion or is in the
Hall of Fame, Please E-mail them to me at
j.mccorkell@mchsi.com.
12/9/09: As you can see, I used the Snow Day to finally redo
the buttons on the Left!
The goal is to have an easy to follow web-site, so that you
can easily figure out all of the many things going on at the Jackson
Speedway. So by all means give me any input on the site.
I added a line at the top of the 2010 Schedule for our
Pre Season Promotional Schedule. I think we have an awesome 2010
Schedule coming together, and we are going to get out and promote the heck
out of it to everyone that we can.
I added a Yesterday's News tab. I am going to use this
to put most of the information that was on the front page, that after its
been on there a while we normally have just been deleting.
I combined the Special Events into one tab, but will be
pulling out these into their own Tab as each events gets closer.
Other Info:
Looks like no World of Outlaw show for 2009. Oh well,
we have plenty of awesome
promotions the way it is!
We got a lot of great ideas in Reno, especially on things for
the Kids Club.
I also have a lot of applicants to sort through, as far as
prospective employees. We will be working on this this week and
next.....
We probably won't have a lot of pictures of track work to
post in the next few days (or Months!). Man what a change in weather,
but I am very thankful for the awesome amount of work we got done in
November.

11/21/09 - We have updated the
Schedule Quite a
Bit, but it is far from set in stone, and I would expect a lot more
Developments \ Changes in terms of the Theme Nights, etc. We may also
add a Big Special (Insert your guess as to what that may be!) in there
somewhere as well, and should know this in a week or so. But overall
2010 is shaping up just awesome, even without any big touring series.
We welcome any suggestions as far as scheduling goes
